The British played a key role helping Estonian & Latvian forces defend our sovereignty over a century ago. 112 Brits died for it.

Today is Remembrance Day in Britain so Estonian soldiers stand guard over their graves in Tallinn.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten here.

Latvia is home to N Europe's largest radio telescope, Irbene.

Soviet spies pointed it West. Then, when the Soviets withdrew, they cut cables, poured acid, & removed manuals to make it unusable.

They failed. Latvian scientists repaired it & pointed it upwards to study the stars.

Rummu remains as a reminder of how suddenly our world can change.

The Soviets said they’d rule “through the worlds and ages” and yet here is their legacy sunk so rapidly beneath the waves.

From its dark past here has emerged a place of joy and discovery for generations to come.

The Baltic nations have been removing occupation monuments from public spaces.

But there are still ways to explore that history - in a more appropriate context.
