@DougD5658@bullpenbanterbb Idk what your standard is, but over 70 career WAR, 5 World Series rings, multiple clutch playoff moments, 3400 hits. Along with being the captain of the team in the toughest market seems like an all time great to me. Just my opinion though
@patwgannon@bullpenbanterbb No the problem is that DRS doesn’t adjust for positional value, it compares Jeter against other shortstops. I’m not saying he was a good defender, but him being a shortstop takes him out of the convo for worst defender ever imo, and the numbers back that up.
@MikeDro_ Being a switch hitter is completely irrelevant to the conversation. If two players have identical stats but one switch hits both players are equally valuable.
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse Ur entire argument to start this was based on stats from a small sample size and thinking you could extrapolate that out to say this is now who Acuña is. Let’s just agree to disagree I’ve wasted enough of my Sunday on twitter.
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse Yes I believe a large enough sample reveals a players distribution of outcomes. I’ll caveat this by saying a players underlying distribution can change with time as skills get better/worse. What are you saying? Stats and sample size don’t matter?
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse “How likely a given player is to consistently harness his best performances is a case-by-case thing”. Dude this is literally what I am saying. But you can’t tell who can consistently do it without a large enough sample!
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse Okay so I guess the Mets should trade for any player who has a good couple weeks. Sounds like a winning formula 👍👍
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse Your situation is akin to bat speed. One does not luck into high bat speed. An MLB player can certainly luck into a home run
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse There is a lot of signal in that example, meaning I would give high credibility to that observation. Home runs are have high variance and do not have that same credibility.
@jaycrosstweets@fanatick23 @EdwinDiazMuse Lmao I never said it wasn’t possible for Acuña to go on a heater for half the month. You are acting like the exception is the norm. Don’t think you know what you are talking about my man.
