HUGE: The SEC and CFTC are building a backup plan for US crypto rules as the CLARITY Act stalls.

The US regulators are advancing Project Crypto, a joint effort to define crypto assets and create clearer rules for staking, stablecoins, custody, fundraising and onchain trading.

The project has already produced a joint interpretation, with more rules now on the SEC’s 2026 agenda.

Though it cannot replace the CLARITY Act, it could be a regulatory workaround as the bill remains stuck.
