I'm writer @truantmemphis. Live among the humans. Yay. Littlethumb Sneezed, Daffodil & Post Oh!pocalypto Poppycock are my books. All definitely almost funny.
@BardEverword@TheoRyder88 And now I’m wondering if my friend happened across this debate on sm somewhere and decided to watch movie 😂. Will have to ask. One thing is sure, whether Veorhaven did a good job portraying fascism or not, the film is definitely an attempted satirization of the themes in book..
@BardEverword@TheoRyder88 It’s very coincidental to me because I read about Heinlen’s book recently, from a random text convonwith a friend who was watching the movie for the first tume. I had always thought the book was a satire but discovered I was wrong and the movie satirized the film.
@BardEverword@TheoRyder88 So if many people find it obvious, but just as many don’t, then logically you could point to the creator and say the intent was there and many consumers recognized it.
I’ll be honest, I never knew this debate existed until now. I just thought the movie was dumb and funny.
@BardEverword@TheoRyder88 Ha. I don’t know that that was Theo’s point though…but your argument was lengthy and reasoned.
And I certainly don’t think either side is stupid for their perception…but that’s also kinda why I would point to creator’s intent, because for many, the fascist message is obvious.
@wayotworld I genuinely believe there is subconscious psychological block that prevents the emotional acceptance of the fact that they have indeed made life harder on their children and grandchildren. No good parent would want to think they’ve fucked over their kids.
@SouthernKeeks I’m 1000% certain this is necessary and there haven’t been any investigations into the officer or situation at all in the last four years.
@letuqe72741@BardEverword Okay, “hey everyone who believes what she said, Verhoeven is convinced he made a film that satires Heinlein’s novel.”
It’s okay if you think his effort fell short.
@Asteroth1776@BardEverword I really have no dog in this fight. I just think it’s funny people can’t accept what Verhoeven states, and has stated all the way back in 1997 before social media arguments existed.
@BardEverword And furthermore. This isn’t a new thing. People have been debating the fascist/pro-military utopia aspects of the book since it was written.
@WilliamShatner Sir, with respect, I think you’re reflecting/thinking on/of a guy from 5 or more years ago (if he was ever truly that guy).
His updated operating system includes some very unfortunate programming.
@MichaelRapaport@rolandsmartin@JasmineForUS When said person in wheel chair has made evil decisions that have damaged millions of people’s lives, said person in wheel chair loses some of their equity for being defended.
Would you blast someone for body shaming Hitler?
@gillianeauthor It’s amazing to me as an American…we went from Gen X screaming “don’t lable me,” literally a slogan used in commercials, to what we have now. It’s regressive, but also kinda makes sense with every generation’s desire to be different/better than their predecessors.
