As I started studying permaculture I began to realize what I had always assumed was true. Our connection to the outward environment is in direct relation to our inward environment. If we want to be healthy first we must aid in the health of the environment.
@munchimonster My eventual goal is an employee owned urban farm. At that point the work and benefit will be shared, but here in the beginning it's only me. I like wearing the many hats but it's tiring
When you start something it often takes more than you might think. This label test strip is a result of figuring out how to grow the microgreens, developing delicious and producible blends, concept branding, typesetting and layout design, template building and print proofing...
Oh and did I mention package testing, market analysis, redesign and redesign again, troubleshooting the many roadblocks and issues that arise, finding the free time in an already hectic schedule, keeping motivated, inspired and driven, budgets everywhere, and don't forget to eat
Building a hugelkultur mound in the front yard to outline the community garden. Started with a pile of logs, then grass clippings, then sticks, more clippings, and mulch and soil. I'm prepping the outside with trays of spent microgreens. They bring life and act as living mulch
@GMOsbad@Judywantschange Didn't realize you're that close, I'm down in Bothell and have family in Marysville. I've been busy lately but things should be smoothing out in the next couple weeks, we should bonk heads sometime โ
@Gustavus_Carl@TurtlesongFarm Thank you, I'm super excited. I learned a long the way they shrivel with direct light so process has been adjusted and second bucket is coming along as well
@Gustavus_Carl@TurtlesongFarm I haven't kept bees yet but I'm starting to appreciate many of the odors of nature's process, most recently with my growing mushrooms experiment
@TurtlesongFarm I'm finally getting to that as I get rid of the sediment, it's great reconnecting with these processes and actually seeing the beauty lost by store shelves
@TurtlesongFarm Thanks for the knowledge. All I've known before was what I've bought at the store, which probably contained bleach. I'm good with the gold and avoiding bleach, especially when it keeps a friend's extra wax out of a landfill.
Interesting process too, bee poop smells awful lol
Have you ever processed raw beeswax from a hive?
I'm wondering if the golden color is because I scorched it or if it will lighten up more as I process it further. The plan is another pass or two until I get all the sediment out.
Just scored my first big account for the urban farm ๐
I'll start posting more about what I'm doing with the hopes of inspiring others to free themselves from the job market. It's not an easy road but it's worth it and if I can do it so can you โ
Together we are stronger
Harvested that mushroom cluster today and cooked it with butter pasta and topped with some parsley macro greens from the garden. Steak and broccolini came from the store. My eventual goal is to be able to grow and produce everything but the steak
@munchimonster Right now I'm selling mocrogreens but I'm working on mushrooms as well. This first account is a restaurant but I'm putting together mixes to sell to grocery stores
