Because the POINT of the entire carceral system is to maintain a permanent underclass which capitalism NEEDS in order to both sustain itself as a system and funnel money upward
SERIOUS QUESTION: Do you ever really get overwhelmed by how our current reality is a genuine dystopian nightmare yet everyone still acts like it is completely normal ??
i think more redemption arcs should present a true challenge as in "what if your loved ones don't forgive you, would you still want to change?", i feel so much male character redemption is carried not by their actions but by women priorizing love over themselves.
I always think about this.
Her rapist legally forced her to reveal in court that he raped her. She managed to get her rape testimony sealed in the English court. So he sued her in Virginia and forced her to reveal to the world that he'd raped her.
I don’t care how pivotal a movie, song, or tv show was for me growing up. I’m an adult now, with a fully functioning and developed brain. I change my opinion on people and situations as I learn new information. I didn’t know they were a creep, now that I do, they’re done. Next!
as we talk about renee nicole good and alex pretti I encourage you to read and talk about keith porter jr., another man who was murdered at the hands of off-duty ICE agents. just because it wasn't recorded doesn't mean it didn't happen. https://t.co/TZugij8SFq
Fascism is the blanket term we are using to describe what is happening. And it DOES apply. But specific words are needed for this moment to teach people what is happening.
Ex. The US is not a democratic republic. It is a corporatocracy. A corporatocracy is a society in which corporations hold the majority of political, economic, and governmental power, often more than elected officials or the public. It’s not always an official form of government but it often exists through
- lobbying (ex. Turbo Tax keeping us PAYING to do taxes when other countries do it for free)
- regulatory capture (ex. The FDA allowing poison in our food/the EPA allowing a whole town to die of cancer in Louisiana)
- monopolies (ex. Facebook/Meta or even Disney)
- privatization of essential services (ex. The destruction of the CDC and healthcare so private companies can swoop in)
@JuddTaylor Haven’t watched it years, but still remember watching that and thinking “after one mean comment you’re instantly folding into a crying mess?” Yeah it’d be hard to hear b/c she had sort of admired/ respected the man but still
@GeauxGabrielle Luke aka The guy who said to Lorelai (after I think they slept together for the first time) that they shouldn’t keep secrets from each other
One of the worst parts of being alive in this era is being ruled by deeply incurious people when the universe is absolutely teeming with wonder. We can’t even think recreationally anymore
