Pray for Pope Leo and our bishops EVERYDAY.

This should be our first instinct. Not complaining. Not criticizing. There is a place for fraternal, charitable criticism.

But our first instinct for our pastors should always and everywhere be prayer and sacrifice.

I can give you an example of how this works. God wills the good, and everything that happens is for His greater glory, even suffering, even the worst suffering, even those who end up in hell. My children's father is an unrepentant adulterer. He destroyed our family many years ago, abandoned us (me and my 3 children) and has been a horrible man ever since. If he dies in his current state, Catholic doctrine teaches he will end up in hell. God knows what will happen of course, but He wills the good. He has used me, despite the anguish this man has caused me, for good in this situation. I pray for my ex-husband and have asked the Lord to spare him and give me the burden so that my ex-husband may grow closer to God before it's too late. I do this because my children love their father. Additionally, it grows my relationship with our Lord every time I pray for my ex-husband, in ways that are difficult to explain. If my ex-husband ends up in hell, it will be entirely his own doing, as I know I am not the only one praying for his salvation. He has every chance to accept the Lord fully while he lives, but it is up to him to do so. And even if he doesn't, the Lord has willed so much good from that suffering. Hopefully this gives you a little insight into Catholic teaching. God doesn't "want" anyone to go to hell, He wills the good. He KNOWS they will go to hell because of their own sin and rebellion, and He wills the good even in that tragedy.

At the airport, watching a dad with his probably seven-month-old. He has her in the air, shifting her around mechanically, like a robot. She’s kicking her legs and squealing.

Mom comes back from the bathroom and immediately straps the baby to her chest. She leans in and snuggles.

Nobody tells Dad to engage in stimulating play with his child. Nobody tells Mom to pull her close and soothe her.

They interact with the same child differently because men and women are different.

Children don't need two adults tossing them in the air. They don't need two parents soothing and comforting them. All stimulation and no security leaves them unmoored; all comfort and no challenge leaves them afraid to venture out.

Children need one parent who promotes attachment and one parent who promotes independence.

Children need a mother and a father.

A culture that treats either one as optional asks children to go without so adults can feel affirmed.
