Here is a great clip from a longer video that explains how the size of forest fires has more to do with management practices than climate change.
It's from Veritasium, a popular YouTube science channel created by Dr. Derek Muller.
He's a Canadian-Australian engineer and science communicator with a PhD in physics education. He launched Veritasium in 2011 to explore counter-intuitive concepts, bust myths, and explain complex ideas through engaging experiments, public interviews, and expert insights.

As a former waterbomber pilot who used to lead an aerial firefighting fleet, I can tell you “send help” is an extremely dishonest framing by the Canadian government.
The Canadian government routinely blocks U.S. firefighting companies from attacking fires in Canada, while aggressively sending their government-subsidized aircraft to the U.S. to earn commercial rates from the U.S. taxpayer. It’s big business for them and they run it like a Chinese protectionist racket.
Cool your potatoes. Seriously.
Chris Kresser on JRE dropped a wild tip: bake or boil a potato, let it cool, and the resistant starch forms. It won’t spike your blood sugar like a hot one does.
Even better, the potato diet. Eat plain potatoes (cooled) for days and people drop half a pound a day on average. Spontaneous calorie drop + gut microbiome feast.
Cooling cooked potatoes creates resistant starch, which acts like fiber, it resists digestion in the small intestine, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, and lowers the glycemic response, helping with blood sugar control and satiety.
Simple, old-school hack that actually works.

Following the amazing reaction to the Marble Curriculum yesterday, we've decided to make it open source 🛰️👇
Everything a child learns in primary school. 1,590 concepts. 3,221 connections across 8 subjects, from Math and Science to Computing and Life Skills. Anchored in the US and UK curriculums, standard by standard (NGSS, Common Core, DfE).
What you will find in the repo: every concept as structured JSON with its age band and the evidence a child must show to master it. Every prerequisite link marked hard or soft, with a written rationale. It's a true DAG you can compute learning paths on. Open license, you can build whatever you want with it.
Now is a unique time in history to be building in education. Getting AI and kids education right is likely one of the hardest and most important problems to crack over the next decade and we need as many smart and creative minds behind it.
We think a common solid basis, accessible to all and that can be built upon, is critical to move fast. That's why we're making this curriculum open source.
It's not perfect but we know it's a robust basis, and we believe that sharing it openly is the fastest way to progress in this field. If you're building in education, share this around you and tell us in comments if you find this useful and if you want to contribute.
We'll keep working and investing on it @withmarbleapp. Credit goes to @guillaume_boni for building this. I just made it look pretty.

Who would've thought of this on their own?
No sugar needed. Pete Evans poached fresh pears in coconut water with star anise, cinnamon, and ginger, and the natural sweetness of the fruit did the rest. The poaching liquid alone, he says, is worth it for the flavor.
"Women need to stop trying to be losers." When Dr Stephanie Estima said this to me a few minutes into our conversation, she didn't mean it as an insult. She meant that almost every piece of health advice women have been given for decades has been built entirely around loss.
Stephanie is a women’s health expert, chiropractor and author who specialises in female physiology. At one point during our chat, I looked across at her and said, “I can see you’re a little bit pissed off”.
And I could. After 20 years in clinical practice, she says the same pattern kept showing up in women of every age and background and she's had enough.
She believes women have been told their worth is based on how small they are. Stephanie wants to change that by helping women understand how the female body actually works and what it needs to GAIN, not lose.
Here is what we covered:
- Why the modern pursuit of "skinny" comes at a devastating physiological cost.
- The exact shift women need to make to build real, functional muscle.
- Lifting exercises women should absolutely never stop doing as they age.
- What the data actually says about training around your menstrual cycle.
- Why tendons, ligaments and bone density matter infinitely more than the number on the scales.
What I appreciated most about Stephanie was how intensely practical she was. She didn't just challenge the old rules - she gave me the precise blueprint for what to do instead.
If you’ve been doing everything you were told to do and your body still isn’t responding, this one is for you (and every man reading this should listen to it too if they want to better understand the women in their lives).
Walking away from this conversation, it made me realise that maybe the goal was never just to become smaller.
Maybe the real goal is to build a body you can trust for the next 50 years.
The episode with Dr Stephanie Estima is live now on all platforms ❤️👊🏾
The EU has invited Taliban officials to Brussels to discuss a migration deal — and today I am shaken and deeply disturbed by this.
This is the same Taliban that banned girls from secondary schools and forced them into marriage. The same Taliban that, earlier this month, arrested dozens of women in Herat for how they were dressed. The same Taliban that detains, beats and executes women who dare to speak out or break their rules.
Through its system of gender apartheid, the Taliban have erased women and girls from public life. Europe must not legitimise a regime responsible for one of the worst human rights crises in the world.
Any engagement with the Taliban must begin and end with the rights of Afghan women and girls.

On Bill C-22, C-8, and C-9:
“These bills constitute a total erosion of Canada’s basic liberties.
They interlock into making Canada essentially unviable for those with choices on where to build.”
$1 trillion in capital already fled Canada in a decade.
Now the builders are saying the same thing out loud.
