He also shed light on the harsh realities in Afghanistan, emphasizing that, were it not for their relocation, his daughters would have been deprived of educational opportunities, as girls are no longer permitted to attend school in Afghanistan.
When asked what he likes best about the United States, Nasratullah said, “America has a good culture and democracy. They respect every culture- this is BIG. Americans are very welcoming of all people.”
Nasratullah & Semin, Afghan immigrants, embarked on an #EpicEnglishJourney with BEACON after arriving in the U.S. Nasratullah, now a dental assistant, aims to complete all BEACON levels and pursue dental hygiene studies. Their kids actively join in daily language practice!

Griselda attends class and tutoring with Sister Patricia Anne to enhance her grammar and writing skills. Her dream? To write a book sharing her journey to the U.S. and the immigrant experience. Her passion for learning has even led her to explore volunteering with BEACON.
Now 66-years-old, she embodies the spirit of lifelong learning, stating, "Even though I am at the retirement age, it is never too late to learn and improve my English."
For more than 30 years, BEACON’s English and Citizenship classes have continued to transform the lives of individuals, like Griselda P., who arrived in the United States 43 years ago from Panama.
Last year, with the dedicated support of more than 140 volunteers, BEACON for English Language & Literacy served a record-breaking 455 students. This year we're on track to serve even more!
