AHEAD OF QUALI, WHAT DID WE WITNESS DURING FP3

P1: Lando leads the way (+0.078s over Leclerc) as McLaren shows serious pace for qualifying

Drama: Oscar clips Wall of Champions, loses practice time but car rebuilt quickly - classic Montreal baptism

The Picture: 3 teams in pole fight (McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes)

Oscar P8 but half-second off teammate’s pace

Qualifying battle incoming! 🍁

A technical deep dive into McLaren this weekend at Canada, in collaboration with Google Cloud 👇

• C6 vs C5 dilemma: Peak pace there but lap delivery struggles continue from Monaco/Imola
• Brake torque + aero sensitivity = cooling compromise nightmare unlike Monaco’s air-starved challenge
• 2023 resurfacing still bumpy but more graining vs 2025 tyre resistance improvements
• New wing tests FP1 - not race spec but data gathering crucial

Setup philosophy: Sacrifice high-speed comfort for low-speed grip 📈

Guys.

Called it from the start. Lots of media hype trying to call regulation on McLaren.

The new front wing was TESTED in Imola with Lando and showed we would not suffer.

Why is this level of insight not shared? Why continue to dramatise for the sake of clicks and views.

Frustrating.

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

Why FP3 is crucial today 👇

🪽The New Reality Check:
• First day under stricter wing regulations shows driver dissatisfaction with car feel
• Impossible to separate flexi-wing impact from Barcelona's punishing heat/high-speed demands
• Red Bull surprisingly strong on Friday (unusual for them) - Verstappen averaged 1m20.09s vs Norris 1m20.19s

👨🏼‍💻McLaren's Split Personality:
• Oscar brilliant on single laps (fastest overall) but struggled on long runs (1m20.90s - 0.8s off Max)
• Lando matched Verstappen's timing almost exactly but lacked Oscar's qualifying pace
• Both drivers on mediums but vastly different race simulation results

‼️FP3's Critical Importance:
• Track temperatures expected to remain brutal - tire degradation will be decisive
• McLaren must solve Oscar's long-run struggles while maintaining single-lap strength
• New flexi-wing characteristics need final optimization before qualifying
• Steel vs titanium skid plate experiment continues (Oscar ran steel, Lando titanium)

🗣️Our Honest Assessment:
Red Bull's Friday form is unusual and concerning. With Barcelona's characteristics supposedly favoring them anyway, we need FP3 to show our true race pace potential. #SpanishGP #FlexiWingEra #FP3Critical

@MclarenDistrict I wonder why all the media outlets are posting so much about these changes, and expected shakeups, if the regulation aren’t going to have much impact.

Feels like the Monaco two stop fiasco all over again!

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

🗣️My attempt to distill all the noise around the Flexi-Wing regulation and the impact it may have on the MCL39 this weekend.

Read below 👇

The Reality Check:
• FIA's tougher tests now active: deflection limits reduced from 15mm to 10mm (both sides)
• McLaren's solution: Added extra support stay between top wing elements + invisible internal carbon fiber strengthening
• Most modifications are hidden structural reinforcements rather than aerodynamic redesigns

Expert Skepticism:
• History suggests teams will design around new regulations just like previous rear wing clampdowns
• Critical question: Will FIA apply new 60N point loads "on every car and in every possible location"?
• If enforcement isn't comprehensive, changes could be "another waste of time"

McLaren's Approach:
• Already tested Spain wing during Imola FP1 (Lando vs Oscar data comparison)
• Team appeared satisfied with results - suggesting no major performance impact expected
• New wing design reportedly "tapers off much more similar to Ferrari" conservative approach

My Verdict:
• Front-runners likely prepared while midfield teams may struggle more (like previous flexi-DRS fiasco)
• Don't expect dramatic pecking order changes despite the technical headlines

Smart preparation beats regulatory panic! #FlexiWingReality #TechnicalRegulations #SpanishGP

…and here’s how he did it, precise analysis incoming from McLaren District, showing how our boy mastered Monaco.

SECTOR 1: Early Advantage
• Carried more speed through Sainte Devote than Leclerc (+0.01s)
• Set the foundation for pole despite Ferrari's stronger S2 pace

SECTOR 2: Strategic Compromise
• Leclerc fought back with better car stability through slow corners
• Ferrari had less understeer through hairpin & T7
• McLaren surprisingly struggled in their usual strength (slow corners)

SECTOR 3: The Decisive Moment
• Norris stayed on throttle LONGER through T15-T16
• Took calculated risks over the kerbs
• Generated crucial final sector advantage where Leclerc had been fastest on Friday

The Margin: 0.109 seconds
• New Monaco lap record for Lando
• Leclerc's ideal lap matched his actual time (no time left)
• Pure driver skill when it mattered most

Perfect execution when championship points are on the line! #MonacoPole #LandoMasterclass

📊 TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: MIAMI GP REVEALED McLAREN'S TRUE ADVANTAGE

The data tells a story of UNPRECEDENTED dominance in Miami. McLaren's pace advantage wasn't the 0.2-0.3s we've seen previously—it was a staggering 0.7-0.8s per lap after clearing Verstappen!

Our analysis reveals why Oscar secured his FOURTH victory:

🛞 McLaren's superior tire degradation profile (particularly evident in the hard tire stint)
💨 Clean air pace that no competitor could match
🍀 VSC timing benefiting Russell to P3 while Verstappen's RB21 simply lacked the pace to defend

🚨Most concerning for rivals: Norris was gaining several tenths per lap on Piastri in the closing stages despite time lost fighting Max earlier.

Interesting midfield development: Williams outpacing Ferrari on pure race pace—a serious concern for Maranello heading into the European leg of the season.

Vasseur himself admitted "McLaren was on another planet in the race." The performance gap seen in Miami makes the upcoming regulation changes for Barcelona seem insufficient to close this chasm. #TechnicalCorner #PaceAnalysis #MiamiGP

TALE OF TWO CARS: VERSTAPPEN VS NORRIS

Max's aging Honda PU suspected to hurt straight-line speed vs McLaren's fresh unit, yet he still dominated Sector 1 (+0.2s).

Norris chose throttle-bleed into T5 while Max preferred braking.

McLaren's superior low-speed traction cut deficit to just 0.15s through S2 straights.

The decisive moment? T17 apex—Norris lifted too early, clunked the kerb, and despite stronger acceleration, couldn't recover.

All to play for today Lando!

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

🎤 Martin Brundle sat down with @LandoNorris on Sky Sports for a 5 minute chat. Below are the key findings -

🎯 "I'm the hunter now, not the hunted" - Lando's mindset shifting as he chases down the competition! His confidence? "Higher than ever before" #LN4 #McLaren

💬 "What I can do is better than what they can do" - Lando on competing against Max and Oscar. The self-belief is STRONG with our boy! #FearLando

🏎️ Lando admits small quali details costing him: "We're talking about one, two, 300s of mistakes." Marginal gains focus as he hunts for perfection #McLarenF1

🧠 Brundle called him "an open book" compared to Max's "genius with short fuse," George's "shiny confidence," and Oscar's "horizontal" calm. Our honest king! #Lando4Ever

🔥 "I've got to believe in myself and I do more than ever" - Lando's championship mentality growing stronger with every race #BelieveInLN4

👊 The Miami winner feels "confident we can have a good weekend" ahead. Says he's "on the right path" - just needs things to "go a little bit more smoothly" #PapayaArmy

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

@F1 Ferrari got to give that position back for missing the apex 🤣

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

Lego cars on May the 4th and no Star Wars theme? MISSED OPPORTUNITY! 😂

They could've had Lando as Luke Skywalker (he already has the lightsaber celebration), Oscar as the calm, collected Obi-Wan, and Andrea Stella as Yoda dropping wisdom about tire management! "The Force is strong with McLaren's downforce."

Even the rain delay could've been blamed on Imperial Weather Control!

The pit crews could've been stormtroopers (they already miss a few pit stops!). #MayThe4thBeWithYou #LegoStarWarsF1 #MissedMarketingOpportunity

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

Looks like F1 found their rain solution—Lego cars with built-in water drainage! 😂 The engineers are finally getting to play with the scale models they've been designing all year. At least no one has to worry about aquaplaning when you've got those little studs for grip! Only in Miami would we go from million-dollar race cars to toys that cost $29.99 at Target.

#LegoGP #EverythingIsAwesome #BrickBuiltRacing

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

@McLarenF1 He’s so unbothered by rain he probably brought his own umbrella to the desert! Looking like he ordered this weather special delivery just to flex his wet weather skills. Championship leaders don't sweat the small stuff—they just make everyone else swim in it! ☔️🏆

[BeanStalkLearning @Beanstalklearn]

@MclarenDistrict @F1 Will the race be cancelled?

[McLaren District @MclarenDistrict]

@F1 Nooooo…

….This is Miami ☔️💧🌧️
