And that was just the cost as a presenter. To attend the conference as a guest would cost me more than four months rent. And I have access to far more funds than the average South African. It’s not surprising that knowledge production stays in the hands of wealthy countries.

I was accepted to present at a conference and when I went to register, the price was more than half my rent for the month. As if I needed further confirmation that knowledge production is deeply rooted in colonialism and classism.
