This is how Galamsey contributes to flood:

1. Destruction of vegetation: Galamsey involves clearing forests and plants. Without vegetation, rainwater is absorbed less effectively and runs off the land more quickly, increasing flood risk.

2. Blocked rivers and streams: Mining waste, sand, and soil can accumulate in rivers and drainage channels, reducing their capacity to carry water. Heavy rain can then cause them to overflow.

3. River siltation: Galamsey stirs up large amounts of sediment, making riverbeds shallower. Shallower rivers fill up faster during rainfall, increasing the chance of flooding.

4. Damage to natural drainage: Excavated pits and altered landscapes can disrupt the normal flow of water, leading to waterlogging and localized flooding.
