On #WorldSocialWorkDay today, we’ve been celebrating the marvellous contribution made by our children’s social care staff to children and families in #Hartlepool.

Members of our children’s social care staff were nominated by their colleagues for entry into a raffle for a hamper to recognise their hard work, and congratulations go to children’s social worker Aud Thompson (pictured below) who was the lucky winner.

Councillor Rachel Creevy, Chair of the Council’s Children’s Services Committee, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank our children’s social care staff for their hard work to help and support children and families in Hartlepool and get the best outcomes for them.

"Their dedication and commitment is outstanding and we are very proud of all that they do and all that they achieve."

🏆 Hartlepool Borough Council is celebrating after earning a national accolade for excellence as an employer in supporting, leading and championing its social workers for both children and adults.

🏆 We received Silver in the Supportive Social Work Employer Award category of the Social Worker of the Year Awards, which are judged by an independent panel of social workers, people with lived experience and senior figures from the world of social work.

🏆 Councillor Gary Allen, Chair of the Council’s Adult and Community-Based Services Committee, said: “We are delighted to receive this award.

“We know that a committed, well-supported and valued workforce is key to achieving the best possible outcomes for local people.

“We have a highly-experienced and accessible senior leadership team in Adult Social Care and we invest in supporting, developing and retaining our social workers, who in turn are proud to work for the Council and are committed to giving the best possible care to the people they look after.”

We are delighted to announce that our Children’s Services department has been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted following an inspection in March 2024.

The Inspectors' findings included:

👦 There is a very strong and effective focus on providing help early to children and their families.

👧🏽 Child protection enquiries are thorough, with effective actions taken to help reduce harm to children.

👦🏻 Social work assessments of children’s needs are exceptionally thorough and child-centred.

👧🏼 The voice of children is valued and threaded through the service.

👦🏽 Young people leaving care are very well supported by committed staff. There is a palpable culture across children’s social care and among council leaders and members that care leavers are ‘their’ children.
