In light of sweetiepiegate, I hc that during the 18 month timeskip, Karen casually brought up that Mike is dating one of Joyce's kids, which ofc Joyce doesn't disagree with since she thinks Mike is dating her daughter El. Karen takes this as confirmation that Mike is dating Will.
