Yesterday, a 69-year-old man was shot and killed in front of his wife during a brutal home robbery at their smallholding on Seren Street in Kromdraai (near Hammanskraal).

According to police, three African male suspects forced entry into the main house around 22:00. They first tied up the victim’s brother who was sleeping inside, then forced him to lead them to an outside room where the elderly couple was.

The 69-year-old opened the door. He was shot without hesitation and collapsed. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the head and declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The attackers then loaded various household and garden items into a silver 2005-model Volkswagen Passat parked outside before fleeing. One suspect drove off in the stolen vehicle while the other two escaped on foot.

No arrests have been made. The victim’s name has not been released publicly yet.
