Police officer: I've been a police officer for over ten years and sometimes when I respond to a domestic call I say to the mother (who is the victim) 'how can you let your children go through this?'
Me: How many times in 10 years have a you said to the perpetrating father 'how could you put the mother of your children and your children through this?'
Police officer: *Silence*
And we wonder why survivors don't want to go the police and perpetrators feel permission to continue to abuse.... Gender double standards around parenting (low expectations for man as parents, high expectations for women as parents) is real and has serious, and sometimes, deadly impact. #StopBlamingMothers #StopIgnoringFathers @SafeandTogether https://t.co/LyazeZzB7e
@breannajrogers The doctoral program in Prevention Science at WSU is an interdisciplinary program involving Human Development, the College of Communication, the College of Education, the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, as well as the Department of Psychology, and Extension.
@nataliavandoren @breannajrogers That’s ridiculously elitist. I definitely suggest prevention science. And also, it’s not you @breannajrogers , it’s them.
@breannajrogers Im sorry you have experienced the soul suck of academia. Take time for you right now and be graceful with yourself. Then, depending on exactly what you want to do after getting your PhD, you might consider Prevention Science programs if you try again.
@T_Hamler Okay, but if you’re first to graduate from college and are, therefore, first gen…aren’t you likely to be the first to get your masters and PhD? How would you lose first gen status just because you earned a graduate degree? Maybe I’m misunderstanding this conversation.

Congratulations to our own Dr. Raven Weaver on editing this special issue in Prevention Science, Toward a Lifespan Prevention Science: A Focus on Middle and Late Adulthood. A great collection of articles. @GATHER_wsu https://t.co/xmLibKT3OM
@jcgreenfield They were beyond horrible there and had no recognition that his behavior directly related to how he was being treated by them. Thankfully, we found an amazing Montessori school here. Night and day difference.
@jcgreenfield Agreed. Now if only it would help the (specific) Parker Elementary School be more understanding and learn how to work with neurodivergent kiddos. Worst experience - TWICE. As in he attended there two different times.
As a PhD student, all I focused on was getting a PhD.
As a PhD supervisor, I focus on training students on the long-term process that leads to getting a PhD.
Here's some examples🧵
