The Bedford & Kempston Conservatives were delighted to celebrate Yorkshire Day in Bedford town this morning. Bedford is a proud and diverse community where people from every corner of the UK and beyond have made our borough their home. Today was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those with proud Yorkshire heritage.

Our Deputy Chairman, James Denison for Castle & Newnham, was joined by Tom Wootton Mayor of Bedford, his wife Elizabeth, who is also a proud Yorkshire lady, and the Chairman, Natalie Christian-John for Riverfield, for the raising of the Yorkshire flag.

James said: “I've lived in Bedford for 13 years now, having previously spent 16 years in London, but I'm originally from Yorkshire and I remain a very proud Yorkshireman. I was therefore delighted to present my family's flag to the town to be raised on Yorkshire Day."

Yorkshire has so much to celebrate, from the breath-taking Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors to its iconic Yorkshire puddings and Yorkshire Tea. It has given us some of Britain's most loved names, including Dame Judi Dench, Sir Michael Parkinson, Sir Patrick Stewart, Jeremy Clarkson, Sean Bean and Michael Palin, a host of sporting legends from Fred Trueman and David Seaman to the Brownlee Brothers and Jessica Ennis, and pioneers such as Captain Cook and William Wilberforce.

We're proud to celebrate the people who have brought that famous Yorkshire spirit to Bedford, helping make our borough the welcoming and vibrant place it is today.

Sir John Major makes the essential point. Parents who send children to private school save the state money.

Labour’s tax on them has failed. Now the state has 2,000 fewer teachers than when Conservatives left office.

So we will reverse this futile, vindictive policy.

This is a blatant lie. Since when did primary school teachers not count as school teachers in England? The overall number of teachers has fallen by ~2000 under Labour. Notice how the Education Secretary conveniently excluded primary school teachers from this figure - despite the government's promises and rationale for VAT on school fees.

Totally agree, lots of parents, children and teachers have suffered at the hands of this Education Secretary’s bad policies.

Instead of faux outrage, Bridget should speak to some of the parents who have been forced to find schools for their children halfway through the year as a result of the education tax or SEND parents whose rights are being diminished by this government’s proposed SEND reforms.

This is the Education Secretary who taxed working parents paying for their disabled children to attend a special school.

Purely because she was ideologically opposed to parents who want to spend money on their children’s education.

🚨Labour and Lib Dem MPs just voted to INCREASE the cost of energy, food, shipping, housing, heating and holidays by voting for Ed Miliband’s new Net Zero target.

One of the reasons I asked to stay in this brief was my time in the Department and seeing how badly we were making decisions about climate and energy.

There’s simply no scrutiny or proper analysis of what these targets are doing to jobs, the cost of living or to the competitiveness of our industry.

The Minister bringing it forward refused to take a single intervention. She did not answer a single question. I’m sorry, but that is simply not good enough.

MP after MP cited bogus figures or praised the Climate Change Committee’s analysis without being even slightly troubled that their cost of offshore wind was wrong by a factor of three.

Get the cost of energy wrong and all your other assumptions about the cost of living and the economy will be wrong too.

I am proud Kemi Badenoch and I have changed our party’s position. We are the only party who have said we should measure the offshoring of emissions.

We are the only party who have a plan to make electricity cheaper without costing the taxpayer a penny. We are the only party with a fully costed plan to axe the Carbon Tax which is replacing clean British industry with dirtier foreign imports.

This debate shows why Parliament is not working. Poor analysis let off the hook by poor scrutiny.

So-called impact assessments which are written to be as impenetrable as possible, and which MPs show no interest in reading or questioning.

We need fewer virtue signalling MPs and many more who can read modelling assumptions.

This inquiry is a huge step towards getting to the truth, and finding accountability for survivors, including those across Keighley and Bradford.

Huge credit goes to @fionagoddarduk for her relentless courage, and to @_RobbieMoore for fighting for this.

For too long, victims have been ignored and institutions have looked the other way. There is still a long way to go - and Conservatives will never stop working with survivors, and their families, to ensure justice is served.

People should be free to worship, work and walk our streets without fear. The attack in Edinburgh is disturbing. Violence in our streets is bad enough but reports indicate some of the victims were targeted because they were Muslim. This is abhorrent.

I am glad police acted swiftly. The victims and their families deserve justice, and the public must have confidence that the law applies equally to everyone.

The Government have quietly announced that they will push ahead with their Puberty Blocker Trial.

Children as young as 11 will be given drugs that can lead to loss of fertility and bone density.

No child can consent to this. The trial must be stopped.
