Reports have appeared that 32-year-old Australian Oscar Jenkins, who fought in the war on the Ukrainian side, was killed by Russians after being taken into Russian captivity.

Defenders who served alongside Oscar Jenkins are convinced their Australian brother-in-arms is dead.

"During the identification process, they used the tattoo he had, and it was shown it was him … he had the word 'vegan' tattooed on his hand," one of them, "Forrest", told ABC News.

There has been no official confirmation for this tragedy.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it would be "absolutely reprehensible" if any harm had been caused to Oscar Jenkins and vowed the Australian government would take the "strongest action possible" if Russia harmed him.

Albanese said that they "have called in the Russian ambassador already," but he stressed that first, all details must be confirmed.

Foreign Minister of Australia Penny Wong stated that "all options on the table" concerning the expulsion of Russia's ambassador to Canberra, adding that they are "working very hard" to ascertain the facts.

On December 25, Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian foreign ministry, said the ministry was "checking information on the detained Australian citizen," whom she described as a "mercenary," and blamed Australia for supporting Ukraine.

The video appeared on Russian "Z-blogs" and shows a cruel interrogation of Oscar Jenkins by Russians. His hands are tied during this.

What a horrible tragedy. Deepest condolences to Oscar's family. Russia's violence towards prisoners of war is widely known. I hope the government of Australia gets to the bottom of this and takes action. Russia must pay for its war crimes.

I want to express gratitude to our air defense warriors—every individual in the various types and branches of our forces who protect our skies. Every night and every day, they intercept Russian Shahed drones and missiles. This morning, they successfully shot down a Russian ballistic missile. Every success like this saves lives.

Ukraine is deeply grateful to all our partners who provide interceptor missiles and air defense systems. We are currently working to secure additional supplies—missiles, defense systems, and everything necessary to strengthen our mobile fire groups.

Our strategic goal is to reach a practical level of cooperation with our partners that allows us to produce the air defense systems and interceptor missiles we need here in Ukraine.
