kind of a massive L for "Lord Walney", the "anti extremism Tsar" to have so totally missed all these violent racists, missed any online disinformation networks and missed whatever Russian force multipliers were active. No bonus for him I hope.
Putin sends his greetings to the NATO Summit by bombing a childrens' hospital, as if any clarification was needed as to why Ukraine must have all possible support now, and real guarantees for security in the future.
If you want to know what Milburn’s “competition” does to healthcare, you should read the Francis report into the failings at Mid Staffs hospital, where an “ethos of competition & commercial negotiation” promoted secrecy and undermined co-operation between medical professionals.
I kid you not. This report says “some areas will have more hospitals - & therefore more intense competition”. It’s laughable - if it wasn’t so widely cited by the privatisers, despite saying nothing robust about competition & nothing at all about competition with private sector.
Competition doesn’t improve healthcare - & if anyone tries to tell you they’ve evidence it does, they’re always quoting one lone LSE study that equated “more hospitals” with “more competition”( 🤦♀️ ) & thus argued more competition led to better heart attack survival rates 🤦♀️
If your measure is ‘how big is the majority in Parliament and therefore how easily can you do stuff?’ then I think Labour’s strength in the Commons is equal to its majority in the Commons and not exaggerated.
Why has someone who has not studied medicine telling a professor and National Director of Diabetes (one of the few that has actually achieved positive things for the population) what to do when it comes to ... medicine and management of patients for:
1) Safety
2) Best outcomes
This is an example for media too.
Hire a housing correspondent who’s known social housing or homelessness.
Hire a health corr who’s worked in health.
Hire an education corr who’s been a teacher.
Don’t assume PPE/ posh school teaches anything about the nation we report on.
nice of Sunak to call Starmer a "decent, public spirited man" but can't help feeling some cognitive dissonance after a Tory campaign which portrayed the Labour leader as some kind of threat to the nation
a sacred social contract is being undermined here
the people who are invested enough in the results to forgo a full night of sleep want to see every result as it happens! Give us the count coverage!
We appear to be at the point of the election where a serving Minister of State is publicly equivocating on social media as to whether he will vote for his party or not. You know, that normal point in a perfectly normal election.
