The 14th Meeting of India-Russia Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism was held in New Delhi today.

Co-chaired by Secretary (West) @AmbSibiGeorge and Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Mr. Dmitry Lyubinski.

Both sides condemned terrorism in all its forms and manifestation including cross- border terrorism and called for concerted action against terrorists and terrorist groups and their proxies and affiliates. They shared their assessment on regional and global terrorism and agreed to enhance cooperation to address challenges such as radicalization, terror financing and misuse of new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen counter terrorism cooperation at multilateral fora including at the UN, BRICS, EAG and SCO.

Based on specific intelligence input from @JmuKmrPolice, a joint search operation was launched by the #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice and @crpf_srinagar in the Gen area of Chanapora, Shopian. During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place between security forces and terrorist.

One LeT terrorist, identified as Zakir Ganai, has been eliminated in the firefight. Arms, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered.

Operation is in progress.
