@ask_aubry The first problem was that she "didn't seem to be having a good time." He was pushing the beer to try to fix that problem. In other words: "My pregnant wife was uncomfortable, wouldn't mask it with booze."
@Finnattentive Ah yes, the pocket dimension called "things I can't currently see." Do they exist if they aren't sitting on my ironing board or on the floor beside my bed? Nobody knows.
I have been in Germany a week and somehow I am only now learning that this country has a beloved children’s character that is a clinically depressed piece of bread — in space.
@CarlBovisNature Yes, I saw my first wild Barn Owl just a few weeks ago. I was driving along a road near Leyburn, North Yorkshire at sundown and it burst out of a tree toward an open field. (I had some difficulty persuading my Merlin app to believe me.)
@GraellsiaMoon I can't understand how anyone can honestly attempt the CO2 argument. Do these people also think that because plants need water, flooding is just rad?
@RachelNeedsANap I don't know if there's such thing as "unlearning" but I think you can build new connections. Like, there's still an old road but you can set up new experiences, and create a new path that gets more worn and familiar. I think it's possible to practice mistakes in a safe way.
@SecondNatureMB This is wonderful! Back in the 90s, I read an Adbusters article about how by the age of 5, children can identify more brand logos than plants. I made it a point to learn the names of as many plants as I could (before Google) and I still greet them like familiar neighbours.
Every month, throughout the year, I choose a day to record all the plants flourishing in our meadow - once an agricultural field. Appreciatively, I pick one of each that can spare a bloom. Today I counted 78 species, most of which are represented here. #WildflowerHour#rewild 💚
@NotABigJerk So much angst, but wasn't it everywhere? Married couples walked on coals. Single people withered from loneliness. Parents lost their minds. Kids melded with their iPads. Caregivers suffocated with overwhelm. Teens dove into their own navels. It was bad all over.
@RollWithRu Somewhere down the line, you might try the Dogman series by Dave Pilkey. The author is ND, the main character is completely unable to mask (deals with negative feedback but is widely loved and often saves the day) and there's a sidekick called 80-HD. ;)
@ask_aubry Do they know how incredibly fragile they sound? "I require a mate that I can feel superior to. I can't stand the idea that she might earn more or even throw a pitch faster than me. I even feel threatened at the thought that she might own a fish."
@NotMatForsman I would probably use a different analogy, because Christians tend to be the ones doing the appropriating and recontextualizing, historically. Plenty of other similar situations come to mind when you look for "nothing about us without us" though.
@draevans I also assume that if I have any difficulties related to a mental health condition or neurodivergence, I will be told "that's not an excuse."
@draevans I hear someone saying "I'm going to assume that our experiences are the same, so you don't need any accommodations, and I don't really need to know more about you."
@TJHogglestock @artcrimeprof Right? I had a similar experience in Belgium. The only vegetarian dish turned out to cobbled together from a bag of chopped mixed veg from the frozen food aisle, still slightly frozen in the middle. I took it quite personally.
