@JeniHooper@StephenVainker As an ex early years teacher I totally agree. 😁 I do wonder if it’s an issue with formal curriculums or how we have chosen to deliver these curriculums that causes the difficulty for my clients.
@StephenVainker Rewards definitely have a place but it’s only a reward when I say it is, not when someone else does. Ignoring this leads to decision makers providing a curriculum that offers very little in motivation and subsequently blaming the learners when they fail to take the boring bait.
@housepanther77@_MissingTheMark Totally, but I would suggest the growth of accountability measures is a direct result of us looking in the wrong direction. We create more accountability when we increasingly blame others instead of blaming those that take the decisions that make education more complicated. 🤔
@housepanther77@_MissingTheMark I would suggest we need to consider where the accountability should be placed? Teachers who try their best to deliver a bloated curriculum, learners who are struggling to cope or decision makers who have reduced resources whilst also increasing demands on everyone else? 🤔
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring
@ShonetteBason We either have fidelity to the script or fidelity to the needs of the learner. Having both is an impossible ask so we need to choose wisely. 😳
@BookLadyKaty My first memory of reading for pleasure was reading TinTin comics during school detentions. Funnily reading improper books as a punishment did me more good than years of formal English lessons. 🙄🤣
@GuardianBooks The primary curriculum put a nail in the coffin of fun and enjoyment within learning. A child’s day is so controlled by an overcrowded curriculum there’s no opportunity for them to enjoy learning, books or reading. Until we declutter the curriculum we can’t address this issue.
@AdeleBatesZ I can’t agree more. Some practitioners have also forgotten that learning can’t be forced upon learners. All learners have to be willing and able to access the learning which is quickly being forgotten in the world of harsh accountability and ever increasing targets. 😩
@PastoralKaty Young people are so far from the centre and have been usurped by targets, outcomes, inspection comments, toadying to those above and simply just trying to survive or chase the next promotion. 😩😩😩
@WhistleblowingT You’ve had your epiphany, now it’s down to planning your getaway. It’s uncertain, it’s scary, it will need you to be super brave but the grass is very green post teaching. Good luck and enjoy life again. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@poppygibsonuk A refocus away from end stage outcomes and grades and a movement towards where the learner is and what THEY need next. I’m fed up of chasing arbitrary political targets when the only target should be the child.
@AdamHighcliffe Tbh it’s a simple snake oil salesman tactics from the pair of them. It’s a pretty basic message, “I’ve done it, follow me, buy my products and you too can be successful”. It’s selling fools gold to desperate people. 😩
@mrjamesob If I end up being forced to see Tweets from people I’ve blocked that will be my red line. I don’t want to be forced to deal with angry, ignorant or just boring people so I’ll permanently jump to a different format.
