If the sight of poor behaviour in a classroom induces immediate reactions of: a) the teacher can’t teach b) isn’t liked c) can’t build positive relationships
Rather than: what have I done and what am I doing to do to help?
Then god help that teacher.
Struggling with some bad behaviour at the moment. I knew starting at a new school would be tough, I just wasn't quite prepared for how personal a minority of kids would be. Hoping I can weather this storm & things will start to get easier 🤞🏻
How long does it take to remove student mobile phones from a school culture?
About 3 days, with staff consistency thereafter to promote sustainability.
One of the greatest, low effort/high impact steps a school can take.
The students love it & are far safer for it.
When I say “Build relationships” with your students, I’m saying “Just be a decent human-being to kids.” It’s not an add-on or something more to do. It’s treating kids like they’re human.
Kids want to tell you about their lives.
They really do. Like, really. They want you to listen, to take interest, and to make comments about what they say. Do that. #RelationshipsMatter
