@roderickgraham Demonization of incels is a real problem. It leads to discrimination of a group of people who are in fact disadvantaged in society. Comes from the focus on wealth/gender/race that people can't conceive such a group who're mostly white/male/not very poor can be disadvantaged.

@antoniogm There's one primary aim of the establishment today, and that's survival by quelling the Trumpian peasant revolt. Once that's (hopefully) successfully done, liberalism will (probably) resume and the resulting backlash will probably cause election of conservatives for a generation.

@roderickgraham I think the terms conservative and liberal don't fit today's politics any more. Some of those black conservatives would be called progressives in the past, and some people calling themselves liberals are trying to suppress free discussion of view points.

So how do you justify this in liberalism (as opposed to left-wing thought) in the face of clear racial inequality? One way out is reparations as a conservative policy.

@deonteleologist When you're away from the centre people on the other side look like extreme caricatures of their real selves. If you really want to understand a political discussion you need to move closer to the centre and become a liberal (ie. moderate in American lingo)

@SpoochyM @and_furiouser As in, in UK health care is something you qualify for by virtue of your medical condition, it's not something you buy (directly or indirectly) as a service. All private healthcare system even insurance works around this principle, so it's more intrusive than buying a service.

this Manichean (re-)construction of American politics post-Nixon is the fault of both parties in abandoning liberalism. It's also a likely harbinger of worse to come, at least a (hopefully cold) civil war in US, with all that entails for the rest of the world.
