Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities - so long as they do it under the guise of “partisanship” rather than explicit “racial bias.” And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach.
The good news is that such setbacks can be overcome. But that will only happen if citizens across the country who cherish our democratic ideals continue to mobilize and vote in record numbers - not just in the upcoming midterms or in high profile races, but in every election and every level.
@NJTRANSIT Your service is horrible! Your delays are more consistent than your service. You’re delayed when it rains, snows, when the sun shines, & when the wind blows. You still take tickets & charge people for the ride from hell that made them an hour late to work. Shame on you
If nothing else, the last nine months should have made it clear that elections matter. But what’s remarkable about America is that we have the power, as citizens, to change this country by voting. Go to https://t.co/NKXRGNgbZX.
Since we passed the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have tried over and over to repeal it. And over and over, they’ve failed — in part because millions of people now depend on the ACA for quality, affordable health care.
Now Republicans are trying something different: quietly weakening the law and hoping you won’t notice. We can’t let them.
Let’s be real clear: Donald Trump has fired Gen. C.Q. Brown as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff because he is a Black man. They DO NOT want Black people on high-ranking positions. He and Pete Hegseth claims Brown, only the 2nd African American to ever hold the position, was too focused on diversity. This administration is all about white heterosexual conservative men. PERIOD.
2020
Biden: 81 million votes
Trump: 74 million votes
2024
Trump: 71 million votes
Harris: 66 million votes
These numbers do not match up with either the empty Trump rallies or the packed Harris rallies, and she should definitely not too quickly concede.
Happy birthday to my friend @KamalaHarris! She has spent her life fighting on behalf of people who need a voice and a chance—now it’s our turn to help elect her as our next president. Make sure you're ready to vote at https://t.co/NKXRGNgbZX.
God has more grace than you have sin, but no one lives a holy life lurking in the shadows of secrecy. If some sin is gaining dominion over you, bring it into the light with God and others.
Maybe we should all sue @MTA for loss wages for crappy commutes that make us late to work. Accountability might make the system work better and there won’t be so many “we are delayed due to train traffic ahead” announcements… 🙄
@NYCTSubway@MTA Forgive the delay. Finally arrived at work. No, there were no announcements made in the station that could be heard from the platform at Atlantic Avenue on the B and Q line. Thanks for the responses.
BREAKING: The media is finally admitting Kamala Harris’ campaign is driving larger crowds and more enthusiasm than Donald Trump’s campaign. It’s no wonder Trump is panicking.
Governor Walz doesn’t just have the experience to be vice president, he has the values and the integrity to make us proud. And as we saw last night, @KamalaHarris and @Tim_Walz make a great team.
Now let’s do everything we can – volunteer, donate, organize – from now until November to help them get elected. https://t.co/spJ8IbtoBX
I’ve read some great books over the last few months and wanted to share some of my favorites. Let me know if you have any recommendations for books I should check out!
With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!
President Biden is right, there is no place in America for this kind of violence. As a country we may not agree on everything, but we should be able to agree on that.
@MTA You suck so bad. Public transportation should be reliable. I’m so sick of leaving home earlier and earlier for you to move slower and slower. You know no one can afford to park in the city and you’re still so unreliable without explanation!
