Got a friend you bonded with and supported while surviving a bad situation together? Now you’ve always got each other’s backs because of your shared experience?
That's your Traumrade. Your Trauma Comrade.
I’m so confused when I see the argument that diversity in media makes the content less relatable.
I regularly relate to still photos of inanimate objects or woodland creatures like, “lol, it me!”
You’re telling me you can’t relate to a slightly different human being?
@NealShusterman While so many books try to gloss over the minutiae of life within their speculative paradigms, these series really dig in to the implications.
Each series feels like it’s asking questions, asking you to ask questions. The worldbuilding deftly serves not just plot, but theme.
@NealShusterman I think the best example of this is the Cult of Tyler- the premise of Unwind is unthinkable, but the variety of experiences makes suspension of disbelief possible. Seeing the consequences of receiving unwound parts makes the concept feel grounded and therefore much more sinister.
@HowtoADHD One of my big red flags is how long I spend in the car before going inside when I get home.
5 minutes = a nice calm down before going inside. 45 minutes = I’m about to completely burn out, a little chill time is not sufficient and I need to take a few days off for recovery.
Do not discount the role life situation plays in ADHD management. A lot of ADHD strategies work great in a vacuum (take control of your schedule!), less so if your life is affected by other people - like a spouse, boss, child, or roommate.
Their definition of “drag” is anyone dressing opposite of their assigned gender at birth. That’s every trans person, and anyone gender-nonconforming.
This bill isn’t just about drag. It’s about erasing queer people from public visibility.
@FaylitaHicks Prepare a menu of activities. Maybe even break it up into categories. Different games you could play, things you could watch, food you could make or order, quiet chill time. Let her choose from the menu- give her autonomy without leaving her to struggle to come up with ideas.
In short, I want to affirm that taking medication is a powerful accommodation that has helped me greatly.
But another powerful accommodation is community. Learning to ask for help has been The Work™️.
Both have been daunting. There’s so much stigma. Both have been incredible.
Today is my first day taking medication for my ADD and depression. My plan is to document my feelings here on Twitter, because... lots of reasons, but I want to and that's enough reason.
Here goes.
And it wasn’t all Susan; part of her plan was to ask for help and praise and reinforcement at each of these stages from trusted friends.
I asked a discord channel to hold me accountable, and they did. Gently, with affirmation that the task was worthy and I was doing a good job.
Just want to shout out @itsginnydi for no reason other than her being an incredible friend, a pillar of the TTRPG community, a hilarious and trustworthy human, and generally making my days better. If you don’t like Ginny Di, then I don’t much like you! She’s honestly the best.
There are a lot of accommodations that can be transformative for ADHD. Requesting praise for things that “shouldn’t” be hard but nonetheless are is one of my favorites.
Know what motivates your brain and rig the odds in your favor. Ask for why you need, even if it feels silly.
