Numbers tell the real growth story, not narratives.

It's gets a bit odd to interact with senior and experienced folks in product, growth, marketing, sales and also at times with business leaders who can't share the impact of their work in numbers.

Share 5-6 stories of your success, at least know how to quantify impact for 2-3 of them directly in numbers.

Most of the founder's office roles in super early stage startups are more or less simple co-ordination task with glamourised job titles that adds zero or near zero value to your skills. Don't fall for them or chase these titles.

Instead pick-up meaningful roles where one can drive impact on key business metrics that matter, everyday.

VCs (in India) are investing in Dosa, not in hi-tech.
VCs are investing in me-too wealth, not cutting age fintech.
VCs are investing in AI, but outside of India.
VCs are investing in US, not in India.
VCs are investing more in late-stage, not in early-stage.

I was in this camp earlier and even trolled VCs at times, until I understood this about money...👇

Money follows money, money follows growth, money follows all places it will maximise its returns.

99% money will follow that path, 1% that believes in you will back you. Life is unfair, deal with it.

Why I generally prefer not hiring from BIG startups and companies…

In large companies, processes and management decisions make things happen, and success has many fathers.

In small setups like ours, it takes people to get things done.. 🥲

If one can’t get your hands dirty.
If one can’t forget your past glory.
If one can’t get past your past comforts.
Then don’t consider joining startups, you are not made for that.
