The Lukashenka regime continues its unprecedented domestic and transnational political repression. For instance, it recently designated the websites and social media accounts of EU-funded initiatives, including @EUvsDisinfo, as 'extremist information sources'.
On this day in 1991, Belarus restored its independence, reclaiming our right to decide our own future.
Defending it must unite us. Whether at home or abroad, whether we protested in 2020 or not, we share one country.
The future of Belarus belongs to the Belarusian people.
Warmest congratulations to the people of 🇪🇪 on Restoration of Independence Day!
For ⬜🟥🤍, 🇪🇪 is more than a neighbour — it is a true friend and a strong supporter of a free Belarus.
Freedom can be taken away, but never the will to restore it.
Elagu Eesti!

Last week, 21 more people in Belarus were recognized as political prisoners @viasna96
In total, @viasna96 counts 880 political prisoners, while @dissident_tweet reports 941.
An unprecedented level of repression in Belarus has lasted 6 years, showing no sign of abating.

Zhyve Belarus!
Following the regime’s designation of the European Humanities University as an “extremist organization,” 30+ searches have been carried out across Belarus. Relatives of EHU students are being threatened with criminal prosecution.
Large-scale repression in Belarus continues.

the move by 🇧🇾 to designate the 🇱🇹European Humanities University as an “extremist organisation” was also discussed by 🇪🇺 foreign ministers today. More sanctions on 🇧🇾 can be forthcoming
#Belarus’ decision to label the European Humanities University in Vilnius as an “extremist organisation” in addition to new laws worsening discrimination against the LGBTIQ+ community marks yet another blatant violation of #human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Am selben Tag wurden auch die Websites unserer Botschaften des Volkes von Belarus als extremistisch eingestuft. Es ist erfreulich, Teil einer internationalen Gemeinschaft von Fachleuten zu sein
The regime in Belarus has labeled the @BBC news website as “extremist” – despite Lukashenka having repeatedly given interviews to BBC journalist @BBCSteveR Steve Rosenberg.
By the way, in Belarus, when you talk to “extremist” media, it’s a criminal offense.
#Belarus None of the released but forcibly deported political prisoners have their passports - they were all confiscated, according to @Dz_Kuchynski. A petty act of revenge by the regime against my friends and these brave people.
How exhausted they are.
This is a great joy and a huge relief. 250 political prisoners are now free and can embrace their loved ones. There is nothing more powerful than seeing someone who endured unjust imprisonment reunited with their family.
It is especially important that, thanks to the efforts of the United States, 235 people have remained at home in Belarus, with their families. Fifteen people have been evacuated to Lithuania – they are already safe and will receive all necessary support.
Our Cabinet, Office, and human rights initiatives are working hard to ensure they are properly cared for.
I am sincerely grateful to President Donald Trump @POTUS, @johnpcoale, Chris Smith, and the 🇺🇸 administration for their tireless efforts to secure the release of political prisoners. These humanitarian efforts are saving lives.
I also thank Lithuania for welcoming the released and all our international partners who continue to stand with us and work toward the release of all political prisoners, the end of repression, and real change in Belarus. These releases are the result of a common effort.
But we must be clear: many people are still behind bars. Our goal remains unchanged — to free them all and to put an end to repression, so that every Belarusian can live freely in their own country.
The release of 250 political prisoners in Belarus is a welcome and tangible step forward.
I thank the United States for brokering this deal. For many families, this is a moment of long-awaited relief and a chance to reunite with their loved ones.
We can't overlook that these individuals should never have been imprisoned in the first place. All those still unjustly detained in Belarus must be freed, and repression must end.
