somehow managed to get both the Belfast pogroms in 1920 and the burning of Bombay Street into an 800 word article for the Independent

i wanted to make a very clear connection between what we’re seeing happening to ethnic minorities in Belfast and across the six counties with the experiences of our parents and grandparents living under the repressive auspicious of the orange state mostly because I wanted to remind people who might be lured into the traps of racist ideology that our history, and the history of our people, is very much structured by an opposition to those same mechanisms of oppression

i knew when all this kicked off that people in West Belfast wouldn’t take the bait, that the anti-colonial, anti-racist politics that runs through the collective consciousness is too firmly ingrained (also fuck the loyalists and their bigotry etc)… but that’s not to say that this can’t change, that the very marginal voices sowing hatred in the community won’t find a foothold (they already have, in all sorts of ways)

i basically wrote this article for the people of West Belfast, to reassert our radical opposition to the bigotry and racism that underpins loyalism and make sure that the people who have come here to build lives for themselves know they are not alone, that they won’t be abandoned the way our parents and grandparents were, and that we stand by them in love and solidarity

Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba

I have absolutely no doubt that this was deliberate. Despite claims there were no warnings ahead of the strike and no notifications sent to the Lebanese Army who allowed us to film

As we have seen in Gaza they want to silence journalists who document and report their war crimes

It is the western powers who provide political and military support for I$rael, arming it to the teeth to carry out genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing here in Lebanon. They are not simply complicit, but active participants and should be held accountable for their actions.

But if I$rael thinks today’s strike will silence us and keep us out of the field they are very, very mistaken

In a normal world, this should be an immense scandal in Europe.

Le Monde has a long article (https://t.co/HsWFThQ5wF) describing the hellish life of Nicolas Guillou, a French judge at the ICC in The Hague, due to U.S. sanctions punishing him for authorizing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes in Gaza.

Guillou's daily existence has been transformed into a Kafkaesque nightmare. He cannot: open or maintain accounts with Google, Amazon, Apple, or any US company; make hotel reservations (Expedia canceled his booking in France hours after he made it); conduct online commerce, since he can't know if the packaging is American; use any major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex are all American); access normal banking services, even with non-American banks, as banks worldwide close sanctioned accounts; conduct virtually any financial transaction.

He describes it as being "economically banned across most of the planet," including in his own country, France, and where he works, the Netherlands.

That's the real shocking aspect of this: the Americans are:
- punishing a European citizen
- for doing his job in Europe
- applying laws Europe officially supports
- at an institution based in Europe
- that Europe helped create and fund

and Europe is not only doing essentially nothing to protect him, they're actively enforcing America's sanctions against their own citizen - European banks closing his accounts, European companies refusing him service, European institutions standing by while Washington destroys a European judge's life on European soil.

Again, in a normal world, European leaders and citizens should be absolutely outraged about this. But we've so normalized the hollowing out of European sovereignty that the sight of a European citizen being economically executed on European soil for upholding European law is treated, at best, as an unfortunate technical complication in transatlantic relations.

#UNGA states recognising Palestine while adding new conditions (demilitarise, censor schoolbooks, vet candidates) show little grasp of three basic facts: colonialism is over; self-determination is unconditional; doing this amid genocide suggests contempt for human dignity.

Israel just bombed an murdered the entire Aljazeera staff in Gaza city:

Correspondents Anas Al Sharif @AnasAlSharif0 and Mohammad Qreiqei, killed.
Cameramen Ibrahim Dhaher and Mo’men Aleiwa, killed.

Crew driver, Mohammad Nofal, killed.

All murdered in an Israeli bombing of their TENT stationed by Al-Shifa hospital.

This means, a commander gave the order, and others executed it. This should be tracked and made public, who killed the journalists.

It wasn’t just a bomb. It was its manufacturer, and the Israeli commanders that are giving the order, and the soldiers saying yes and conducting the strike.

All of these murderers need to be made public by name. Israeli state violence is made by people.
