Divis/Ardmoulin Protest Shows the Power of Community Action
Over the weekend, the IRSP held a protest at Ardmoulin Terrace in Divis to highlight the ongoing crisis caused by a long-ignored problem property in the area. We want to sincerely thank everyone who came out and stood with us in defence of our community.
The PSNI maintained a presence during the protest. But, as usual, they were nowhere to be seen when the actual anti-social behaviour was happening. That silence speaks for itself. The Housing Executive eventually acted, but only after relentless pressure. And even then, the job was left half done, with the property still accessible to those who had used it to terrorise residents.
Let’s be clear. If this situation had happened anywhere outside Divis or the Lower Falls, it would have been resolved long ago. The only reason any action was taken at all is because the IRSP stepped up, led from the front, and organised real community resistance.
IRSP member Michael Kelly addressed the protest, thanking residents for their solidarity and urging people to learn about the growing threat of gentrification that is displacing working-class communities like ours.
As expected, Sinn Féin were nowhere to be seen. No statement, no visit, no sign of concern. Instead, they were busy attending a talk with the so-called great and good to mark twenty years since IRA decommissioning. Meanwhile, our community continues to suffer today.
They continue to tell residents to phone the PSNI, knowing full well the level of anger and distrust that exists in this area. Let’s not forget that it was not so long ago they stood on platforms beside PSNI Chief George Hamilton and UVF commander Winkie Irvine, all while ignoring the real problems affecting our streets.
The weekend’s protest proved once again that real change does not come from politicians or panels. It comes from ordinary people standing together and refusing to be ignored.
IRSP in Belfast criticise Housing Executive over failure to act on problem property in Lower Falls
The IRSP is highlighting the continued failure of the Housing Executive to take meaningful action against a property in the Ardmoulin Terrace area of Divis that has become a magnet for drug use and ongoing anti-social behaviour.
This house has caused untold stress and disruption to the lives of local residents – including many elderly and vulnerable neighbours – who have every right to feel safe in their homes and on their streets.
As is so often the case, the PSNI have stood by and allowed anti-community elements to run riot, leaving working-class people to pick up the pieces and deal with the fallout.
We are calling on the local community to stand together and raise their voices. Join us tomorrow for a protest at the property as we demand urgent action to protect our neighbourhood and restore a sense of safety and dignity to the area.

@ConaireMclaugh1 Possibly. There are 4000 of them going out over the next few weeks Conaire across Belfast so we are unable to unfortunately to every area.
We advertise in advance on the local facebook pages.
🗞IRSP activists were out on Friday evening delivering the latest Starry Plough newsletter around the Lower Falls area.
Great response from locals with plenty of support and good conversations on the doors.
The IRSP will be maintaining a visible presence in the area over the coming weeks. We have always stood with our community, and we remain committed to protecting it.
Dunville Park Update
We regret to report yet another incident of anti-social behaviour in Dunville Park — this time involving the deliberate burning of the children’s play area, resulting in the park’s closure.
Dunville Park is a vital community space, used and enjoyed by people of all ages. We cannot allow a small number of individuals to destroy it for everyone else.
@TonyMallon14@Andykelly198@irspireland “I have never spoke a bad word about you guys, please help me. I actually agree with a lot of things use do and say”😂 😂 😂 😂
Swiftly told to “f**k off” to which you continued your marathan down the street.
@TonyMallon14@Andykelly198@irspireland Really Tony?…
Do you need reminded of the incident 2 years ago when you approached IRSP activists on the street, (you were running down a street in Beechmount) looking for help from people in West Belfast who were threatening you online and on the street.
Republican Socialists in Belfast have targeted another property in the Mid Falls area, managed by Northern Property for charging extortionate rent prices.
“We cannot stand here today without challenging the growing attempts by the PSNI to criminalise Republicans for honouring our dead.
The IRSP stands firm: no matter your political affiliation, everyone has the right to honour their dead. We will not be bullied. We will not be intimidated. You failed to silence us in 1981, and you will fail again today.”

“They try to incriminate our parades and commemorations. But all they are met with is the smiles and laughter of the generation that will witness the ending of partition in Ireland.”

“The IRSP has made our position clear on immigration: the Irish Republic has the right to control its own borders to protect the working class and to shield the world’s most vulnerable from being exploited by the capitalist system. But we absolutely reject those who seek to twist that crisis into an excuse for racism or sectarianism. They are not our allies. They are not welcome.”
