We chose 1775 because the American Revolution did not begin with a document. It began when ordinary people organized locally, carried warnings, assembled, took responsibility, and acted before the outcome was certain.
1776 represents independence declared.
1775 represents self-government becoming real through action.
Event. Outrage. Algorithm. Fundraising. Election. Dissipation. Repeat. The cycle can feel intensely political while producing little local capacity. A permanent institution asks a harder question: what still exists when the feed moves on?
Tocqueville, Democracy in America: "Local assemblies of citizens constitute the strength of free nations."
Local meetings are where people learn democratic habits. A permanent site, regular meetings, officers, records and public events give a town a place to keep practicing.
Burke to the electors of Bristol, 1774: "Your representative owes you, not his industry only, but his judgment."
His full speech also asked representatives to stay in close contact with voters. Any civic body can use that standard. Know your town well, then make your calls in the open where people can hold you to them.
Edmund Burke: "To love the little platoon we belong to in society, is the first principle... of public affections."
Family, congregation, lodge, union, neighborhood, chapter. People learn to love a country in groups small enough that they know each other. Bell Tower 1775 is trying to rebuild that layer.

The Anti-Federalist Brutus, 1787: "If they do not know... the sentiments of the people, the people do not govern."
His fear was that scale would cut the tie between representatives and the represented. Strong local institutions make a community knowable, and they give it a way to speak for itself.
Modern politics can mobilize millions and leave almost nothing standing afterward. No property. No local treasury. No succession. No institution that has to survive the election. That is activation, not necessarily organization. Bell Tower 1775 is designed to leave something behind.
Ancient Chinese bellmakers were casting bells that could play two different notes. The trick was the oval shape and exactly where you struck it.
That's a hell of an acoustic achievement for instruments made more than 2,000 years ago.
Five bells, laid out like a map of the universe.
In Japanese esoteric Buddhist ritual, one stood at the center for Mahavairocana, with four more representing Buddhas of the cardinal directions.
The whole altar was a cosmology you could ring.

Madison, Federalist No. 57: "The aim of every political constitution is... to obtain for rulers men who possess most wisdom... and most virtue."
A build shows you who those people are before anyone hands them power. Who shows up, handles money honestly, settles disputes and finishes the job?
The healthiest local leadership is not discovered by branding. It is discovered under responsibility. Who shows up? Who keeps promises? Who can manage money, settle disagreements, organize trades and finish the job? Shared work reveals leaders before politics asks us to trust them.
