British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has characterized the passing of British-Ghanaian scholar Jason Arday as a “tragedy on so many levels.”

Arday, born in London to parents of Ghanaian origin, achieved the distinction of becoming the youngest Black professor at the University of Cambridge during 2023 when he was 37 years of age.

He was discovered without response in south London and declared deceased at the age of 41.

Authorities have indicated that the circumstances of his death are not regarded as suspicious.

The fatality occurred several days subsequent to his departure from the post of Professor of Sociology of Education at Cambridge, which followed accusations of plagiarism and inquiries concerning elements of his scholarly background.

In his earlier years Arday had been employed as a cleaner and in a supermarket prior to developing his academic path and obtaining a doctoral degree.
