📢Call for abstracts #EGU26 🌊🌋🏖️ #Marine#Geohazards in the #Aegean: cascading quakes–volcanoes–slides–tsunamis. We seek interdisciplinary work on geohazard processes, monitoring & early warning, scenario/risk modelling & societal resilience (tourism, heritage).
Key findings:
- Evidence for #tsunami wave transport >10 m above sea level
- Detection of Amphistegina lobifera offers a post-1869 CE time constraint.
- New insights into #tsunami risk in the Central #Mediterranean.
Using a combination of #sedimentology and #micropalaeontology, we show that karst pockets in elevated limestone terrain (>10 m asl) can trap and preserve marine #sands deposited by past #tsunami waves.

For this year I am looking forward to continue working with several brilliant fellow young researchers on these samples to get deeper insights into mechanisms of the 2011 Tohoku-oki #megathrust#earthquake and #tsunami, and the #paleoseismicity of the Japan Trench. 3/3
Last year had many scientific highlights for me but it ended with a banger. About 1 month ago I disembarked D/V #Chikyu being offshore for the #IODP#Exp405#JTRACK. It took some time to digest these two months offshore. It was an amazing experience and an engineering marvel. 1/2
7000 m water depth we successfully cored ~950 m through the Japan Trench subduction zone and collected the input sequence from the incoming Pacific plate.

It was a nice Christmas present our new paper on the Shallow seismic stratigraphy of the southwestern Algarve shelf (Portugal) and characteristics of offshore tsunami deposits
Great job @FeistLisa603

December issue out now: featuring Articles on the collapse of an East Antarctic ice shelf, porphyry copper deposit formation, and methane leakage from the Baltic seabed, as well as a Focus on deep ocean drilling and more!

#IODP#EXP386 postcruise meeting in the books! It was fantastic to see and discuss science with everyone here in Alaska.
I am looking forward now to pick up the pen and write papers based on this fantastic dataset
New Paper alert:
Simultaneously to the #floods in southern Germany our paper on the inventory of released #pollutants during the 2021 #flood along the Inde & Vicht rivers has been published.

Happy to have presented our research in the #MULTIMAREX consortium & #biomarker analyses of #paleotsunami deposits in Japan at the #2024AMK.
Great community, great discussion. Looking forward to next year.
Thank you @drmaex, @geo_kathi and @thomasneise86 for the organization!
