We continue to see great progress on new Station 4. Construction is on schedule and we should be moving in the end of the year. The station will serve our north end and is located at 920 Winter Sumac RD NE.
Oregon crew update. Continue to work the northwest side of the Slater Fire near Cave Junction in southwest Oregon. Completing structure prep, mop-up, structure assessment, and assisting with burn-outs. Crew spirits are high and the community is grateful for our presence.
Bemidji and Cross Lake firefighters, which make up MN Task Force II in Oregon, have been assisting with burn outs to protect structures near Cave Junction.
7 MN departments, with 29 firefighters and 9 trucks, are now driving to the #OregonFires front lines. Before they left, crews stocked supplies and trained on fire sheltering in case the flames get too close and they can't evacuate in time. #EMAC
The floor at new Station 4 was poured this past week. The wall panels will be going up soon. The project is on schedule and should be completed by year end. Station 4 is in the north end of our service area.
Bemidji Fire has be awarded a $321,527 Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) from the United States Department of Homeland Security/FEMA. This grant is for the purchase of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) which provides respiratory protection to our firefighters.
Commercial structure fire late Sunday evening. Firefighters arrived on scene to find light smoke inside the building. Upon entry to the building, a fire was located in the ceiling space. The fire was quickly contain and extinguished.
In May of 2019 the ISO Public Protection Classification for fire protection in the Bemidji area improved. Many home owners and businesses have seen reductions in their insurance premiums. Recently a resident informed us that they had a $860 reduction in their annual premiums.

House fire Saturday evening. No injuries and moderate damage to the structure. Smoke alarms notified the occupants of the fire. After investigation, it appears the fire started accidentally in the attic area of the home. Stations 1, 2 and 3 responded to the scene.
Bemidji Fire responded to a boat in distress and endanger of sinking on Lake Plantagenet on Thursday night. Upon arrival we found one person in the water and another person in a nearly submerged boat. Both parties were safely rescued without injury.
