This sunset shot captures the closing three at Carnoustie.

16th, 245 yards. Tom Watson — five-time Open champion — called it the hardest par 3 in the world. Took him seven attempts across two Opens to finally par it.
(The local joke? It's no even the hardest par 3 in Carnoustie. The 9th and 14th on the Burnside would have a word.)

17th, "The Island." The Barry Burn snakes in an S-bend across the hole — depending on your line, you cross it four times on this hole alone.

18th. Two more carries over that same burn — and where Van de Velde lost the Open with the Claret Jug in his hands.
