MUSK PLANS MAJOR MIDTERM SPENDING
Elon Musk has reportedly authorized his super PAC to spend up to $120 million to support Republican candidates in this year’s US midterm elections.
The funding, expected to total $100 million-$120 million, would target campaigns in at least eight states.
MIDDLE EAST CONFLICT ESCALATES
Fighting between Iran and the US intensified overnight as Iran launched ballistic missiles at US forces, while the US and Saudi Arabia responded with strikes on Iran-backed militias in Iraq, ending a brief diplomatic pause.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted drones targeting its oil facilities for a second consecutive day. The US said all Iranian missiles aimed at its forces were intercepted.
Oil prices jumped nearly 4%, with Brent crude rising to around $87 a barrel, as traders reacted to renewed supply concerns. The Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed, with shipping heavily disrupted, while tensions are also rising in the Red Sea after attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
The widening conflict now spans Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Yemen, raising fears of a broader regional war. Markets are increasingly focused on energy security, inflation risks and the potential economic fallout, while hopes for renewed US-Iran peace talks continue to fade.
MORGAN STANLEY STAYS BULLISH ON AI
Morgan Stanley says the AI supply chain still offers attractive risk/reward after the recent pullback, calling the selloff largely technical and driven by profit-taking. The bank expects AI compute demand to outpace supply for years and remains bullish on AI capability gains, adoption, and the long-term growth in AI-related capital spending.
AI CUTS THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMER SERVICE JOBS
AI is rapidly replacing customer service workers as companies including Commonwealth Bank, Microsoft, Uber and Hyatt automate chat and call centers. Bloomberg reports thousands of jobs have already been eliminated, with Microsoft alone cutting its support workforce from 50,000 to 40,000. Analysts expect AI to impact nearly half of customer service roles by 2030, with outsourced markets facing the biggest losses.
JPMORGAN TURNS BULLISH ON STOCKS
JPMorgan said its tactical positioning monitor is flashing a buy signal, pointing to further upside for the S&P 500.
The bank expects lower bond yields, a weaker dollar, steady Fed policy, and strong earnings to support equities, while warning that semiconductor positioning and U.S.-Iran tensions remain key risks.
"The S&P put/call skew just collapsed to 0.71. Not a low. The lowest reading on record ... crash protection is essentially free. Nobody wants it."

BOFA: DEFENSIVES COULD SHINE IF AI HYPE FADES
Bank of America strategist Sebastian Raedler warns investors to consider defensive sectors like consumer staples and pharma if AI spending proves unsustainable. He argues AI profitability may fall as cheaper models emerge and customers resist higher prices. While upbeat forecasts from Micron and Qualcomm have lifted sentiment, Raedler says bonds and defensive stocks could outperform if the AI trade weakens.
