This feels like such an overreaction to the most obvious cultural misinterpretation. Sandy Brondello referred to Angel Reese as a "protected species”, which is widely used in Australian sport to describe a player/team that seemingly receives preferential treatment from referees.
There’s never been any racial element to that phrase, Brondello showed grace and apologized anyway, and was still suspended. An unserious outcome and a wild precedent.
I think… this is a fair critique? I’m a little torn as there’s an element that this is a historic event, 142 yrs in the making, & that it’s fair to celebrate & enjoy. On the other, this is a high performance, well-enumerated professional team, who we r constantly calling to be…
It is pretty clear that the Bucks violated the salary cap by giving Trent a minimal contract, only to sign him for 5x that amount for 4 years after a terrible year. But, the worst punishment the league could give the Bucks would be having to honor the contract.
Bill Simmons talking about the NBA:
“The second apron that they put in is having so many ramifications for team building, player building. And they did this to basically protect the owners, so everybody could make more money. All of these things are smart financial moves. But I don’t think any of these things have made the NBA better. Because they’re making business decisions and not league decisions. Adam Silver’s job is to elevate the league and make money, has he elevated the league this decade?”
Harsh words for the commish.
“Well CC fans can’t say we’re racist against Caitlin if we put Sophie on the poster instead of her”
WNBA execs probably.
I mean how do you leave off the most consequential player in the history of the league? 😂😂😭😭😭
I can’t think of the last time a pro sports league needed a competent commissioner more badly than the WNBA does right now. Maybe the NBA in the early-80s pre-Stern.

What is most sad about this package is how little faith it has in people. In our fellow New Zealanders. It casts every entrepreneur as an exploiter, every large company as greedy, and every landlord as evil. Every successful person is viewed as a potential source of revenue to be tapped by politicians who have generally spent very little time adding to the country’s wealth given they depend on our taxes for their salaries.
Jose Alvarado on Wemby not shaking hands with the Knicks:
“I got mixed emotions… the way he did it was a little too crazy for me because I loved how he competed during the game.”

Us OKC fans watched SGA get slandered for almost 2 years for some “free throws”- the stuff they said about him & his family was/is diabolical.
Wemby is getting slandered for dirty plays, hits on players & being sore loser for 4 days & spurs fans are losing their minds.
Watching Starting 5 again-
Go listen to what Tyrese Haliburton says after SGA goes to check on him right after winning the championship & maybe certain people will understand why Wemby not shaking hands & literally walking away from Brunson, is a big deal.
Draymond on Wemby not shaking hands with the Brunson after the Finals:
“Look your killer in the face… if you leave the court and you don’t look me in my face and I just beat you. I actually know that I own you forever.”
