New paper out today in @PNASNews by @kirvers in collaboration with Gyöngyi Cinege at the Biological Research Center in Hungary. Details the evolution of new #Drosophila genes through #horizontalgenetransfer#hgt that confer parasitoid resistance. https://t.co/PsjpfTtQk8
To be considered by Lego for production, my Ideas submission needs to gather 10,000 votes. If you'd like to see this set of arthropod model organisms available for purchase, please vote here and share among your friends and colleagues:

@Elsie_youlater @UAW5810 I’m concerned a yes vote leaves the other units out in the cold. UC has refused to budge for them at all. I don’t want to gain at others expense.
@eucalypso1021 @lmillernpr Because they are more closely related to arachnids like spiders and scorpions. It’s a relic of the lineage that gave rise to those land based critters that stayed in the sea.
@Kyla_Lacey@michaelharriot There’s also https://t.co/YEdAMJxkgz Not like @ricky_martin is some obscure person no ones ever heard of? Is this a young person thing that thinks anything pre-1999 is ancient history or just a white thing or both? Anyway “súbete a mi moto!”
@Adam_Is_Pneuma @TheAngryEpi Actually numbers are worse since only 68% of US population has completed 1st and 2nd dose of COVID vaccine and only 49% are boosted. https://t.co/Ne1XKpIzkO
@Adam_Is_Pneuma @TheAngryEpi It’s >4x the death rate, but it’s a WEEKLY death rate. If 20% of US population is unvaccinated that’s almost 4000 excess deaths EVERY WEEK. Also rate of serious side effects for vaccine is extremely low. Rate for long COVID may be higher than 5%. Plus you know Death!?
@Adam_Is_Pneuma @TheAngryEpi People are still dying. Being old or fat doesn't mean you're no longer are a person and it's ok to your loved ones that you are dead. And young and otherwise healthy people do die of COVID or get serious long COVID symptoms that are ruinous! https://t.co/ZT05MUvn24
@Adam_Is_Pneuma @TheAngryEpi Read the title of the graph. Look there are >1 million COVID deaths in the USA over the 146 weeks of the pandemic (1/20 to 10/22). That's average of >7000 a week. A mean death rate ~2 per 100k per week. 2 seems small. But that's 2 1/3 nine elevens dead a week! Not small.
