“The other point about the Cold War is this: yes, people in the Soviet Union were living miserable lives—largely of their own system’s making. But Americans were actually having a good time. They paid taxes, they funded nuclear weapons, but people were also going to Disneyland, taking trips to Europe, buying houses. Life went on.

In fact, Americans and people in Western Europe were living fulfilling lives while essentially waiting for others to get with the program. That’s the lesson: if we’re going to make it through this next Cold War, we need to cooperate with our allies, build institutions, and improve laws. Don’t just burn the house down. We got through the first one, and we can get through this one too—living full, meaningful lives while we wait for Putin or Xi Jinping to come up with something different.

But if we squander our strong hand—if we eliminate university funding and destroy the intellectual capital those industries depend on; if we dump our allies for no clear reason and alienate them so they organize without us; if we throw away entire institutions without thinking carefully about what we’re doing—then we become a cooperative adversary to our own decline.

At that point, we’re the bozo putting a plastic bag over our own head.”

this is simple. after the internet esp the hierarchy completely flipped:

before: survival → family → companionship → self

now: self → career → lifestyle → maybe companionship

social media made the self the protagonist of every story. & capitalism funds the crap out of it too (e.g. constantly marketing to you about self improvement)

the modern individual ends up kinda perfectly optimized for independence, & perfectly incapable of interdependence. everything external like partners, friends, even family is judged by whether it enhances the self, not whether it anchors it. you’ll see this in therapy talk all the time about cutting ppl off etc.

it’s efficient as hell, & amazingly tragic. we sorta built a culture where everyone is their own god, & but no one has a congregation.

Ich wünsche mir kein Verbot der AfD, aber ein Verbotsverfahren.

Die Prüfung durch das BVerfG wird dazu führen, dass entweder

a) die Partei sich radikal und nachhaltig demokratisiert, indem sie die extremistischen Personen und Positionen entfernt. Sie wird zu einer Alternativ-CDU und kann damit fair im verfassungsmäßigen Rahmen um Wähler werben. Es kommt zu keinem Verbot.

oder

b) sie zerfällt in dem Prozess in mehrere Teile, offen-radikale und gemäßigte, wobei diese dann verboten werden könnten.

c) sie ignoriert das Verfahren und wird verboten. Was viele als Ziel und Erfolg bezeichnen ist ein tragisches, aber dann unvermeidbares Ergebnis. Ich wünsche es nicht und würde hoffen, dass der Wunsch nach Selbsterhaltung und ggf. Einsicht dazu führen, dass die AfD den Weg a) betreibt. Wenn sie jedoch trotz Einstufung und Prüfung daran festhält, Deutschland im Kern zu zerstören, muss sich die Demokratie wehren.

Alle drei Szenarien sind ein Gewinn in dieser kritischen Lage. Wer sich gegen ein Verbot ausspricht, hat meine Zustimmung, wer aber schon das im GG vorgesehen Verfahren zur Prüfung ausschließen will, handelt aus parteitaktischen Gründen, die nicht aufgehen und das Land in große Gefahr bringen.
