Interesting talk with Ian Jeffreys this morning and great tour of the amazing facilities that @UniSouthWales has to offer. It was nice to establish a greater holistic understanding of coaching and S&C developed throughout Ian’s presentation. #HSE360UK
Exciting that an academy role can expand from a a single role in full time to now a team of 4 full timers and 6 assistants. This is expected to grow for a top tier team.
Counteracted by the amount of applicants for jobs makes it extremely tough to find a full time role
Uni of Worcester Morning Session
Mike Bateman : Performance Analysis
Effective delivery of Key Values, action variables and effective operational definitions contributing to the learning of the actual game performance of the player.
Empowering climate ➡️ Highly associated with Autonomous motivation ➡️Less likely to drop out.
Does the way we coach kids at the early adolescence effect the pathways of kids into higher level sport?
Should there be an intervention in Grassroots sport?
Uni of Birmingham Afternoon Session:
Prof Joan Duda - "Motivational Psychologist"
- Physical activity motivation in Children: The benefits of empowering kids to be physically active are easier to translate into an older age.
Task-involving motivation is crucial to succeeding at elite level sport. From my experience at Cats, this is evident in all their practices in their review and training processes
@JoanDuda talks to our #HSE360UK team at @unibirmingham about the good, the bad & the ugly of motivation in sport using self-determination theory: “Quality motivation & wellbeing promoted when environment is autonomy & socially supportive, & controlling behaviours minimised”
Thank you @MeganTeychenne for your talk about mental health & PA.

- Mod to Vig PA is effective for managing depression
- Domain of PA is vital

Intriguing talk about exercise metabolism conducted by @cs_shaw today.
My take aways included:
- Autophagy becomes active from exercise
- It may be important for chronic adaptation
- There are fibre type dependant responses after acute exercise

Thanks @mdsportex for your insightful discussion!
I think doping in sport has a long way to go in ways that we can determine the management of athletes and their performance enhancement strategies!
Uni of Birmingham Day 2 Morning Session
Dr Ian Broadley @mdsportex : Doping Issues in Coaching.
- If athletes dont see the detrimental effects on doping, they are more inclined to use it
Interesting that the 3 strikes policy in elite sport surrounding recreational drugs is relevant to the law of that country, but yet still allows the athlete to use that drug on 2 seperate occasions before any intervention is made by the club or support services of the athlete
KEY TAKE AWAY
If doping was to be permitted in competitive sport this would explicitly pressure drug use for athletes who wish to compete clean, which is detrimental to the spirt of the sport.
More funding & commitment to current anti-doping protocols is recommended #HSE360UK
