"Upstream" cancer researchโprevention, screening and early detectionโcan ease pressure "downstream" on hospitals.
Even without new treatments, upstream innovation can benefit patients via less cancers & earlier treatment (โฌ๏ธquality of life & โฌ๏ธsurvival).

Great day in Clare College [out of shot] with @CambridgeC2D3.
Really useful meeting on building robust #EarlyCancerDetection models.
Thanks to Sam Ip and all the other organisers!
Great week in Melbourne at #CAPRI24.
Exciting to link up with the Data Connect team at @VCCCAlliance / @UMCPC_official and plan international collaborations for using primary care data to detect cancer earlier

So exciting to be part of #PRiCAN24!
Thank-you to everyone who took part in my research prioritisation accelerator workshop โ looking forward to delivering a "Top 10 List of Research Priorities for Detecting Symptomatic Cancer in Primary Care" on June 7th.
What a wonderful day at our inaugural #PRiCAN24 conference! Thank you to our incredible speakers and guests who are helping us make progress with early cancer detection and primary care cancer research.
@HRBOpenRes: Please can you settle a bet: Do citations from everything published on HRB Open (Peer reviewed articles, Pre-approval articles, Datasets...) get pulled into personal citation metric calculators, e.g. Google Scholar, Scopus, Web-of-Science?
Or is it more complicated?
Excited to be part of this:
Opportunities to improve cancer outcomes lie all around us in primary care โ we just need to put the right tools into the hands of GPs and PCPs

@LGatting A photographer who was very professional!
@DrAhmedaAli1 is who you should talk to -- works alongside me on lung cancer screening on the recruitment intervention
Amazing few days with the PRiCAN team at CRUK's #EarlyCancerDetection Conference 2023
So much inspiring clinical & lab research presented on the big stageโesp. cutting-edge biomarkers / omics for early detectionโimportant that implementation is rooted is rigorous science!
@AUDGPI @donalwallace@BallySnr@drahmedaali@ICGPnews Thank you for having me!
@NDTP_HSE -- Please fund more GP Clinical Fellowships! Only 4 per year.
These posts equip primary care with GPs with specific expertise to drive change in strategic areas, benefitting the whole health service and the whole population.
I spoke about these Fellowships at the @AUDGPI Early Careers Evening last night โ gave me the perfect introduction to Academic GP straight after qualifying
Perfect for GP trainees thinking about GP teaching/research but not sure

@DrWilliamBehan@MedgibbonsCathy@Education_Ire However, the question: "Who benefits?" is a good one.
Likely it is not in the Dept. of Ed's Vision Statement: "to give a minimal-input bonus of 100 L.C. points to speakers of foreign languages not routinely taught in Ireland"
But there may still be some good arguments in favour
@DrWilliamBehan@MedgibbonsCathy@Education_Ire The English L.C. exam is not comparable with French/German/Chinese etc.
Foreign language exams (and Irish) test ability to read/write/converse sufficiently in that language.
English exam assumes fluency and tests higher skills, such as literature knowledge / critical thinking.
