@TonyKent_Writes CPS lawyers are battling to stay on top of their unrealistic workloads as it is - when are they supposed to find the time for all these meetings? Yet another clue that these people have no idea what they’re on about.
The equivalent of 18 Old Baileys have been shut all week due to sitting days budget caps in 11 weeks since @DavidLammy plans for judge-alone trials emerged
In total to 20 February 2026 3,611 court rooms were shut over the 11 full weeks.
(excludes 837 courts shut 22-23/12, 2/1).
Very good article. If courts routinely fast-tracked those cases which are likely to crack 18 months later, you would cut through the backlog. The Liverpool model needs adopting everywhere. I believe Snaresbrook does something similar.
Lammy is saying that it is unfair for jurors to be required to deal with "long and complex cases".
I do not remember him or Starmer making that argument over the Hillsborough Inquests, which took 2 years with a jury.
I was there and I saw the jury at work, concentrating, listening and accepting their public duty, day after day, month after month, even year after year.
Is Lammy now saying that there should have been no jury for that case?
And that there will be no juries for similar cases in the future?
Or has he basically got no idea what he is talking about?
I don't know many people who care as much for anything as this man does for City of Liverpool FC. Those who voted for him were right to put their faith in someone as dedicated, smart and tireless to lead the club into a new era. A shame that the circumstances were not right.
As many will know I was elected to the board of City of Liverpool at the weekend, please see a statement below as to why I will not be taking up that position - this is a very frustrating outcome but was the only option left to us as deadlines approached with no handover
Swift (H) - the reds face a tough challenge tonight as the away side appear to have bribed officials to field more than the regulation 11 players. Reds unchanged from the wolves fixture.
@Conservatives@RishiSunak Lawyers are not their clients.
Your failure to understand such a basic fundament of the rule of law makes it clear that you are not a serious political party, and should be nowhere near the levers of government.
Absolutely central to your conduct as a barrister is that if you mislead inadvertently, you immediately accept the error and correct the statement. Whilst this does not spill over into our private lives, one would expect it from someone using their position for media purposes.
