Times they are a changing! We passed our FY23 Frederick City Budget to include $500,000 for a brand new Maryland Deaf Community Center thanks to a late amendment by my colleague Donna Kuzemchak. We’re stepping up for our Frederick residents who have been ignored for too long.
Credit for the investment goes to community advocates like RISE Coalition of Western Maryland, who have organized for years to get resources devoted to working families who need them. An extra thanks to Westside Park champion Donna Kuzemchak who keeps “fighting for what’s Right”.
Last night we voted to pass a true “Working Families Budget” for the City of Frederick! We fought hard and included amazing investments including $7.5M for a brand new Westside Community Center to join Sophie and Madigan's Playground at Westside Park.

Our community has really won the prize with this appointment. I’m excited for Director Ramenta Cottrell to lead our city’s Department of Housing and Human Services as we expand our role in ensuring safe affordable housing and transform the delivery of outcome based human services
It was inspiring to be at the groundbreaking ceremony for Sophie and Madigan's Playground at Frederick’s Westside Regional Park. Wonderful words from the Lillard family, who have championed this beautiful initiative for their daughters, and from longtime supporter Mayor O'Connor.
Some may try to pull you down into the darkness of despair and defeat. We’ve lived in that darkness before and we’re not going back. I’m at your side as we march this community into a beautiful future; marching right past those voices calling for a return to our unjust past.
I woke up this morning feeling a deep well of appreciation for my friend Aje Hill and the tireless work you do for our Frederick community with your program I Believe In Me, Inc. I’m with you, everyday, like you are with this community, everyday.
It’s a great Sunday morning to stroll through the The Frederick City Market on North Market St. Lots of vendors to help you stock up for the week (yes, veggies, but we couldn’t resist some cake pops too).
The weekend’s marches for justice and Black Lives were powerful displays that we have voices and boots all over Frederick. We’re determined to keep showing up.
Many thanks to the Consulate of El Salvador and our local community leaders for bringing the mobile consular services program to Frederick. The first time services were provided and over 100 were helped. Our diversity, importance, and strength of community keep being recognized.
We had great people on today’s first shift of the Golden Mile neighborhood cleanup. The next groups keep arriving and grabbing trash bags. Proud to show my kids who our community is and to help the leaders of “La Cuarenta” make our city beautiful.
Last night’s gala for the Phoenix Foundation of Maryland was an awesome outpouring of support to help young people recover from substance abuse disorder. I was proud to be there for all the friends I’ve lost. I hold your memories in the light, everyday.
