In 1927, Harry S. Colt remodelled our course, transforming our original routing into eighteen holes using the natural heathland terrain. His brilliant design and strategic bunkering remain largely intact today, offering a taste of historic golf in the Midlands.
Our winter work to seamlessly blend the opening five holes with the rest of our timeless design has been a success. All eighteen holes are back open and ready for you to enjoy, after winter work led by Frank Pont.

Since 1702, our land has evolved from a racecourse to our club founded in 1886. Through H.S. Colt’s 1927 design and our recent changes with HS2, we remain immensely proud of our heritage.

Our second Clubhouse was what is now called the Whittington Arms. Club records show the bar was under strict orders to never let the whiskey supply drop below three cases.
Proof that golfers have always had their priorities in order.
Immaculate winter golf is a credit to Adam and the team’s work through the cold, wet months.
Their dedication keeps the fairways remarkably dry year-round, reinforcing our reputation as one of the country’s finest inland winter courses.
Starting our back nine with a strong 405-yard par 4.
Strategy off the tee is everything. Do you lay back short of the bunkers, or try to thread the needle between them?
A huge shoutout to Adam and the entire team for their dedication in balancing ongoing bunker improvement works while still maintaining exceptional playing conditions throughout the winter months. Their commitment ensures that our course remains in top shape year-round.
The ideal drive on the 14th hole should challenge the cleverly placed bunker to the right of the fairway to open up the best angle to attack the green.
Classic risk reward strategy from Harry Colt.
While several new holes have been constructed over the past five years, some like the 12th have remained untouched. A testament to the enduring quality of their original design.
