Object-Oriented #programming is not the only paradigm out there. Look at functional programming even if you intend to focus on object-oriented systems. At the very least, your OO #code will start to exhibit more referential transparency.

On technical debt:

1. Distinguish between deliberate and inadvertent
2. If you absolutely must incur it, make sure you have a tracking system and a process to pay back that technical debt as quickly as possible.
