I am also sceptical, and curious to hear what others have to say - I was not aware that Columbus’ Genoese origins were a matter of controversy! One obvious objection to the latest research: whether the remains at Seville are really Columbus’ is unclear.
If for no other reason than my innate suspicion of Spanish academics claiming that Columbus is Spanish just as Spanish politicians have been wanting to claim for over a long time, I’m going to wait to see if other scholars with actual expertise agree with findings
