Bellarmine Mugabe Fined R600K, Faces Deportation After Conviction

Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of the late Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, has been sentenced in a Johannesburg court to a fine of R400,000 (or 24 months in prison) for pointing a firearm, plus an additional R200,000 (or 18 months) for contravening South Africa's Immigration Act by being in the country illegally.

He will be immediately deported to Zimbabwe following sentencing.

His co-accused Tobias Matonhodze attempted murder - 12 months imprisonment, defeating ends of justice-12 months, unlawfully possession of firearm - 3 years, unlawful possession of ammunition -12months.

So Matonhodze will effectively spend 3 years in jail.

[RAPE OF A 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN DOBSONVILLE]

Tshepo Ntsimane (56), an uncle to a 13-year-old victim, is expected to appear before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court again on 14 April 2026 for a formal bail application, following his first court appearance last week Wednesday on a charge of rape.

Between 20:00 on 03 April 2026 and 02:00 on 04 April 2026, at a residence in Dobsonville, the victim went to the premises with her aunt and a 10-year-old friend to cook, as they did not have electricity at home.

Reports indicate that the suspect later arrived at the residence allegedly intoxicated. It is further alleged that the suspect gave the victim a drink which caused her to become dizzy, after which she was allegedly taken to a vehicle parked outside the yard, where she was raped. The victim later regained consciousness in the suspect’s office, where she was found in a distressed condition by witnesses.

A medical examination was conducted and yielded positive findings consistent with injuries. Forensic evidence was collected at the scene, including the victim’s clothing recovered from a vehicle, vomit containing a red substance, as well as wine stains found on the office floor. Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the premises has also been seized for further analysis.

An adult witness reportedly discovered the victim inside the office and recorded video evidence of the scene, which forms part of the investigation.

The matter is being handled with the necessary urgency, and investigations are continuing.

SON SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER OF HIS MOTHER IN MAMELODI

A 25-year-old man from Mamelodi will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of the brutal murder of his own mother in a case that has shocked the community.

Prince Amukelani Maluleka was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Pretoria High Court on Tuesday, 24 March 2026, for the murder of his 56-year-old mother, Renolda Maluleka.

The court heard that on the morning of 11 October 2022, Maluleka called his cousin asking for assistance. However, upon arrival, the cousin was met with a horrific scene, finding Maluleka standing in the kitchen next to his mother’s lifeless body, which lay in a pool of blood.

Police were called to the scene, where Maluleka initially attempted to mislead authorities by claiming that the victim had died by suicide.

As the case unfolded in court, Maluleeka pleaded not guilty and later changed his version, alleging that an unknown intruder may have been responsible for the killing.

During sentencing, the defence argued for leniency, citing his age, his status as a first-time offender, and the time he had already spent in custody awaiting trial.

However, State prosecutor Advocate Vusimuzi Tshabalala strongly opposed this, telling the court that there were no grounds to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence. He emphasised that Maluleka had shown no remorse for his actions.

The court also heard disturbing testimony from family members, who revealed that the accused had previously made chilling remarks suggesting that “someone would die in the house.”

Victim impact statements, facilitated by court preparation officer Lebogang Lebese, painted a painful picture of a family still struggling to understand the motive behind the killing.

In delivering judgment, the court found no substantial and compelling circumstances to justify a lesser sentence and handed down life imprisonment.

The National Prosecuting Authority welcomed the outcome, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crime.

“The NPA reiterates its unwavering commitment to combating violent crime, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring justice for victims. Communities are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected abuse or violence to the relevant authorities.”

South Africa is facing many challenges. The challenges are massive as we saw today in different courts including the National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola being served with summons. However what we are witnessing is that these court issues are being beamed live on television for South Africans to see and hear so that they can make informed decisions . Journalists giving us information live in different courts, in some countries this was not going to happen. We really have to appreciate this because in the midst of all challenges there is some hope.
