6️⃣. The NFT timeline

⚪️ In 2014. Quantum was the first-ever NFT.

🔴 In 2015. Spells of Genesis launched the first-ever blockchain-based game.

⚪️ In 2016. Rare Pepes helped kick off the first crypto art market.

🔴 In 2017. The world noticed non-fungible tokens. 2 collections became pioneers: the CryptoPunks in art and the CryptoKitties in gaming.

⚪️ In 2018. Axie infinity is the first NFT game as “play-to-earn”.

🔴 In 2020. Decentraland, NBA Top Shot and Art Blocks.

⚪️ Prior to 2021. Two catalysts arguably helped increase price points and speed public interest:
- The COVID-19 pandemic obliging people to be turning more towards digital resources.
- “Beeple” turned into an NFT pioneer when he became the first creator to sell an NFT with a major auction house. (Christie’s auction for his “Everydays — The First 5000 Days” for $69 million)

🔴 In 2021. Bored Ape Yacht Club pushing more widely the NFT craze.

⚪️ In 2023. The NFT market is liberated and a ton of projects on various blockchains are being created. (List of project available on the Tezos blockchain coming into another thread)

👉 In the future. It’s been widely speculated that NFTs could play some role in the metaverse of the future, mainly by acting as a digital representation of the physical objects you possess
