Risk factors for recurrent patellar instability have been well documented. However, data from JUPITER has identified that patella alta (CDI > 1.2) may be protective against osteochondral fractures if recurrent patellar instability occurs while a TT-TG of > 13 mm is a risk factor.
There are a number of factors that can lead to patellar instability. These factors include alignment, bony anatomy, and soft tissue deficits. We are studying the interactions of these risk factors so that surgeons can better address the underlying pathology.
At #AAOS2024, JUPITER PI Shital Parikh moderated the Showdown on Patellar Instability with participating surgeons @DrMihoTanaka@SethLShermanMD, as well as Dr. Jason Koh and Dr. David Dejour! Great debates on tibial tubercle transfers and trochleoplasties!
The dreaded "jumping J-sign" represents an obligate patellofemoral dislocation in extension. Debate remains as to whether this can be successfully addressed with isolated MPFL-/MPFC-reconstruction. The JUPITER group looks to delineate the indications for isolated MPFL-R/MPFC-R.
Lead investigator, @bethshubinstein, and members of the #JUPITER study group @JackieMBrady, Dan Green MD, and biostatistician Joseph Nguyen found time to discuss #PFI and our upcoming projects at the #AOSSM 2023 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC last week!
