🚨 SAVE America Act Hits 50 Votes in Senate — But Filibuster Kills It Again
Sen. Mike Lee’s push for proof of citizenship to register to vote reached a bare majority today during the vote-a-rama. Still blocked.
Here’s what happened:
• Graham’s version (with Trump-backed additions like protecting women’s sports) failed to hit 50. Four Republicans defected: Collins, Murkowski, McConnell, Tillis.
• Lee’s clean, House-passed version hit exactly 50 votes. Collins flipped to yes. VP Vance could have made 51.
But the 60-vote filibuster threshold stopped both cold.
Lee nailed it: “But for the Zombie Filibuster, this would be on Trump’s desk right now.”
The parliamentarian also blocked a reconciliation workaround. Trump is demanding she be fired.
Bottom line: A majority of the Senate supports requiring proof of citizenship to vote. Democrats + a few GOP holdouts are using procedure to block what voters want before the next election.
Time to kill the filibuster and deliver results.
